I really believe the Smyrna vs. Riverdale is really being downplayed alot this week. I think it will easily be the game of the week. Maybe the game of the year.(j/k) But anyhow i really see Smyrna having the chance to beat Riverdale in this game. I mean look Riverdale will probably downplay this game thinking oh well it's Smyrna, and were got them at TOMAHAWK. Well not so fast my friend. Smyrna has a great QB, and their backfield will be loaded with plenty of speed in Shannon, and Johnson. I really look for an upset in this one and if you have nothing to do friday night go to the game it will be one you don't forget.

PREDICTION: Smyrna-24 ; Riverdale-21 :D

If you can't go, tape it off of Comcast like I will. It will be on channel 27 at 7:30 . I am excited that I will get to come home from our game at Oakland and watch this one! i am anxious to see how Wolke stacks up this year, and how Thomas fills Britton's shoes.

It is sure a big change from last year on the boards. Smyrna was on here in June saying how badly they were gonna stomp Riverdale and take the region. i guess those players either got censored by Shadowens or grew up. I hate to say it but I kind of miss tangling with them online!

im sorry but i dont see smyrna pulling off the upset at all. i saw smyrna in the spring and they didnt impress me too much. of course though they do have a great qb in wolke...he could lead his team to victory but i doubt. i hope smyrna wins by 4 touchdowns....because that will give me a lot more confidence for lincoln county going into the riverdale game.....because lc smoke smyrna in the spring.....but i really dont see it happening that way. i think riverdale take this one 38-21

Last years team was supposed to be the "Team" to win the first title for Smyrna. After that Smyrna players and fans have realized that you can't look that far into the season and you can only win state if you make it to the playoffs first and you can only mkae it to the playoffs if you win and never overlook anybody the way we overlooked Cookville last year. I really think if Smyrna realize the fact that they are playing "Riverdale" (ooh scary!!!) and that riverdale can be beaten then they will win.

If Smyrna wins this game I don't think it will be because Riverdale overlooked Smyrna. This is a BIG game. After Friday night only one team in the region will be undefeated and that team is going to have the inside track to the region crown (although Oakland will still have a say in that).

Smyrna and Riverdale are both likely going to be playoff teams. There is a lot riding on this game so early in the season. Let's see:

~ the early lead in the region

~ home field in the playoffs

~ the chance to show your stuff on TV

~ bragging rights

~ winning streak at tomahawk

~ winning streak in the region

~ probably some other stuff

This is a young Riverdale team that will get better each week. Smyrna is a big, and very serious, challenge to this team. Riverdale is definitely talented enough to win this game. The only question is whether they are mature enough. Sure wish this game was being played 3 or 4 weeks later.

Back to my original point; if Smyrna wins I think they become the region favorite and could really shake up the final region standings. If they win the game it will be because they are for real.

I'll be there! I was going to get on here and start on the strength of schedule that Riverdale has to play, but then I got to looking at the other teams in the region. This region is taking a shot this year! Has anyone noticed this:

Riverdale - Lincoln Co., Dickson Co.,

Oakland - Brentwood Academy, Franklin, Lincoln Co

Smyrna - Hendersonville

LaVergne - MBA

Blackman - Lincoln Co, Brentwood, Gallatin

Wilson Central - Everyone is a battle.

We (the region) play the best the state has to offer. I don't see anyway ANY of these team go through the season perfect. Besides having unbelievable nonregion games, we all have to beat up on each other.

    • Eagleville hosting shows laziness on the part of the TSSAA and a complete disregard for the appearance of impartiality. Absolutely nothing against EHS. Its not their fault TSSAA is lazy.    I understand EHS staff work the games at Eagleville, and they don’t want to miss the EHS games. However this isn’t rocket science. It would take less than 1 hour to cross-train EHS and RHS volunteers at the opposite sites. If Eagleville (or any host)  makes the tournament, flip their game site and have the volunteers flip sites for the days their school plays at the opposite site. Magically the school’s fans would be present to watch the their kids play and the kids at least lose some familiarity and home field advantage.  It takes almost no effort and is a ~15 minute extra drive.
    • We feel the pain!
    • Jason Lambert should be the only choice for the Baseball coaching position.
    • From the stats I found online it looks like Gabe Eddington- .484, 44 total hits, 43 runs scored and 42 stolen bases.Meanwhile, on the mound, the Austin Peay commit had a record of 8-2, while compiling 50 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.82. Carson Parrott - 7-0 overall as a starting pitcher with a 1.41 ERA, 95 strikeouts and a save in 53 and 1/3 innings pitched. Parrott hit .392 with 3 home runs, 21 RBIs with a .566 OBP and .716 SLG. Jaxon Walker - .454, 53 hits, 38 RBI’s, 9 HRs.   Not saying the other three aren’t deserving but Quillen had better BA than all three and was just as dominate pitching.  Like I said I don’t know how you leave off the 3a Baseball player of the year last year when he put up better numbers.  I know Greeneville’s Coach wasn’t happy about it saying “I don’t give a s*** what anybody else says. That kid is the best player in Tennessee, and everybody else on our team rises to his level“.  I’m sure winning another State Championship as a junior is more important to Carson than the individual award, it’s just a head scratcher to not be nominated
