1998 FIRST ROUND OF THE AAAAA PLAYOFFS. 10 -0 RED BANK TAKES ON 4 - 6 FRANKLIN COUNTY. THE FINAL SCORE IS NOT INDICATIVEOF THE GAME. RED BANK HAD A FRESHMAN BY THE NAME OF RIGGS. HE HAD NOT REACHED HIS FULL POTENTIAL AT THAT TIME BUT HE STILL RAN HARD. FRANKLIN COUNTY WINS BIG IN RED BANK 42 - 21. THEY GET TO GO ON TO THE SECOND ROUND TO MEET THE EVENTAUL STATE CHAMPION OAKLAND PATRIOTS.

1993 Gordonsville vs. South P. in the 3rd round. Gordonsville had already played Hartsville close, beat a good Franklin Road team, and even went to the mountain and beat cloudland. I think Gordonsville had the better team that year. They had it inside the twenty a couple of times that night and didnt punch it in. I think everyone was looking forward to seeing them play Hartsville again.

It seemed like Red Bank was upset in the playoffs every year. In 95 Sequatchie was 6-5, playing at 11-0 South Greene in the 2nd round. SG was ranked #2 in 2A, overrated but still thought of highly. Sequatchie won 18-6 at SG, game was not as close as the score, SG returned a fumble for a touchdown and was dominated at the line of scrimmage.

South Pitt would have gotten blistered by the Tigers in 2000. Too bad they didn't show up.

Funny thing that Lookout valley didn't have any trouble with Sunbright and SP beat Lookout Valley easy the week before the first round. How was Sunbright going to beat SP when they couldn't even beat Lookout Valley?

Simple, Sunbright wasn't even notified of South Pitt cheating until Wednesday at practice. They had to switch gears from preparing for one team to another in basically a day. All the while, Lookout Valley already knew and had been practicing.

That don't make no sense. SP didn't know untill the day of the playoffs. They were allready getting ready to leave when the word came that the letter saying the player could play was a forgery. Lookout Valley didn't know such thing. Practise or not SP would have run all over Sunbright. All this bull about Sunbright winning is just bull. Ask 100 people who knew the situation I will guarantee 99 will say SP would have won. SP went 2-8 but all the games were close several could have went either way. Sunbright was about like they allways are, easy.

The biggest surprise to me was Riverdale losing to Dickson County in 1999. I saw Riverdale play against Centennial when my nephew was quarterback at Centennial. I didn't think anyone would beat Riverdale that year. They were awesome.

Anderson County stopping Clevelands streak was a surprise in 1996.

When Maryville won the State Title in 2000 there were several surprises.

After MHS beats Hixson 24-21 every Maryville fan thought the Rebels would be at Cleveland. Halls upsets Cleveland on the road. After MHS beats Halls at home 21-6 every Rebel fan thought the Rebels would play at Central. Rhea County upsets Central on the road. After MHS beats Rhea County 21-7 at home every Rebel fan thought they would be going to Morristown. Greenville upsets the Morristown West Trojans on the road. Mhs beats Greeneville 28-11 at home then pulls another shocker by beating Memphis East 33-14 for the 4A title.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
