TribeFan
How about Benny Monore who coached Cleveland to 3 consecutive state championships (4A) and his teams won something like 54 games in a row during that same time frame. He is now retired. He is a legend in SE TN, heck they even named the stadium after him @ Cleveland. But remember he grew up in McMinn County and learned everything while he was here. TribeGuy22
Benny Monroe comes to mind as a legend, but not as the best coach as far as ability goes. He kindve falls in the same category with a John Mullinax. They're both very respected and well liked coaches and did some good things at their programs, but as far as being the "best" coaches, theres no way. GWAVE1
Coach Jim Barron, he is the one who brought Gallatin back from the early 60's when they were terrible. That might have been the year that we went undefeated but didn't get into the playoffs because of our traditional game versus Portland. Indian
Coach Tom Weathers while at Red Bank his overall winning percentage was 86.4%including all playoff games. One state championship, one runnerup and two of his teams finished ranked in the top ten in the nation by the end of the year. Weathers grts my vote, he has forgotten more about football than the rest of these coachs will ever learn. 825293762[/snapback] Too many first and second round playoff losses to teams with less ability. Evidently those other coaches that took teams with no college signees to Chattanooga in Novembers and beat him had learned something. d2fan
I know a lot of people out there love Coach Flatt, and view him as one of the greatest coaches in Tennessee history. However, I have heard that he will retire as soon as he breaks the all time wins record in Tennessee history.
thorough97
2 coaches that I would have on my list from the Chattanooga area would E.B. "Red" Etter, who coached at Chattanooga Central and Baylor and has 312 wins in 41 years, and Pete Potter who had 230+ wins at Mc Callie. Both of these men have sons who are in the coaching ranks, Red's son is Gene Etter, the head baseball coach at Baylor, and Pete's son, Ralph is the head football coach at McCallie.
