Dobyns Bennett vs Sullivan South

I was told the Sullivan South/DB rivalry was one of the best in Northeast TN

You were told wrong. It used to be a good matchup when South was more competitive. Now days, what that game still has is big crowd and a game that alot of South people see as their biggest game.

Today Oak Ridge/DB is the big game, with Science Hill and or Jeff Co coming in second, unless there is a big playoff game.

Some of the behavior you may have seen can come from the fact that all week South loves to wave that rebel flag any and everywhere they can. Alot of DB's black students get worked up about just like when I was there in 95, same thing..

Now about behavior, what else is new. They are in high school. In fact, I have never been to a high school game that I have not seen junk like that go on. Now as adults sometimes childish acts go right over our heads. But if you look at most any game, you will see this. I know because I am a DB fan that lives in Nashville and even in the private schools this stuff goes on. By the way, worst behavior I have ever seen was Melrose adult fans and students after they lost to Hillsboro last year at Hillsboro, but you did'nt see me getting on the web a trashing Melrose fans. DB has a long history of for the most part having classy fans and students and many will testify to that. Oak Ridge, MBA, and many other guest at our stadium will tell you the same. Sorry you had a bad experience but if you have not seen this kind of kid stuff going on before at other schools like I have, maybe you should stay at home if it bothers you.

Pudding, typically those things are not common because I have never seen behavior like that at a DB game. Sorry you had a bad time but again don't let some bad apples ruin the whole thing. Kids can't be watched all the time, everywhere. For any complaint like this there are 1000 other Non Indian fans that will speak highly of DB fans, students, and players. I should know because as a fan for years I often receive such compliments from players and fans of other schools. MBA people, the king of class, always tell me how much they enjoyed DB fans hosting as well as visiting the finest boys school in the South. We all are entitled to our opinions, I don't let a couple of bad incidents ruin what I know to be a good thing.

Pudding,

I didn't play football at DB, my Daddy didn't and my grandmother wasn't a cheerleader, so I'm kind of an outsider who has been converted to DB football and the school in general. I was at the game last night, stood outside the stadium for several minutes, walked to my car and drove around to the back of the school to pick up a player. I never saw anything like you described going on. Whether it's the fans who applaud visiting bands or injured players, the clubs that host the tailgate dinners, the largest HS band in the state, the announcer, the coaches who refuse to run up scores, or the players - DB is a class act. The same can be said of the administrators and teachers at the school.

While I suspect your account may be a bit exaggerated, :P if it's true, it in no way typifies DB, its fans or its students. Actually, I suggest you come back to what will likely be a good DB/Jeff County matchup in a few weeks and prove it to yourself.

I hear the South JV is fired up to take some revenge on Monday. Should be a good one - look for the Tribe's young ones to take out some frustrations in their first JV game of the season.

Roll Tribe.

First off pudding, i'm a so called "A-A" also. And i'm obviously not talking about alcoholics anonymous as to what you must mean. I don't appreciate you bashing my race like this, fake. You are just trying to call out some random people for no reasons trying to cause a disturbance. Go to any other high school in the free country and see whats going on. BigReno is right.

Hey guys this was going on at the North/Db game as welll, evidently some South kids came inside the stadium on the North side waving flags, a bunch of DB kids came over and it really started getting radical. They were told by some of our parents in the stands to settle down and a flag was taken from a db kid who was climbing up the back of the stands and cussing parents and offering to kick their you know whats, throwing ice and when the parent who is an officer by the way tried to stop them, someone reported him for behavior unbecoming an officer and he didnt do anything other than tell them to go on, and these kids were escorted out of the stadium by kingsport officers, so yes its starting to get bad in some ways, we saw it as well, and we see it all just about all of the games nowdays. We as parents and faculty and such do need to have officers patrolling in order to get a handle on this kind of behavior. Good game guys hey Bud told ya your team would spankem lol.

Whoa guys. I was also at the game. I spoke to the man, Skunk, once or twice, and looked for Waco and his singing mule. Major Hoople made the appearance too. I personally was treated with the upmost respect and enjoyed the food and the band. I did actually see the girls along the road as was stated. They were being ugly. I heard of a pretty good fight too, from a kid I trust. But heck, that's hard to avoid and finds a way to come to fruistion every year regardless of the location. Has Coach Christian dropped a few pounds, by the way? Lookin' good! All in all, enjoyed myself. If only Waco had come to give me a ride on the mule. Maybe I should have borrowed Hoople's mule. I heard he had his famous mule, that he rode backwards through Hawkins County, double parked out back next to the Chevy truck 'ole Skunk was trying have towed. ;)

Let this thread die now. On to the DB @ Beardon for ya!

    • Who’s going to lead the pirates offense this year?
    • Pickett is good, may have a Mr. Football like season if he’s used correctly. One of the best teams Marion has fielded in a while. I think they go 12-1 and loose to ER.  ER has better players at almost every position. If they play discipline this year, they win soundly. If they don’t though…Marion could sneak away with it.
    • I’m betting the house on the Indians. Pickett and Co will be the only team to challenge the Indians in the East. Huntingdon can in the West. I think Brooks goes 15-0 and has the first perfect season and state championship in ER history.
    • Sounds like a great opportunity has opened up for the football team.  With the head coach of the diamond rebels making it official and quitting this week, there should be some room for the gridiron guys to benefit. I assume the administration won’t continue paying six figures to two former coach that quit to continue teaching drivers Ed. Thats pretty good money that could be redirected toward the football program. Also, with the more recent policies of pushing kids to only play one sport, abolishing the baseball program altogether would help on Friday nights in the fall. There is some decent speed on that baseball team that should’ve been playing on Fridays IMO. I’m not sure if anybody would really miss that baseball program anyway with it being across town from the school. The liability of letting players actually use the facilities could also be mitigated with closing the program. That liability seems to be a really big issue for 825. Anyway, it seems like a great opportunity is available.
    • Yeah, I read about their spring blue/gray scrimmage after I typed that.   Sounds like a real mess over there.  I just hate that for 'em.  Haw
