I would have to go with Dobyns Bennett on this one. I have never heard another high school band that sounds as good, has uniforms as nice, or has as many people as DB.

I tell you one thing, when DB starts playing the Florida State chant, that is some feeling you get, I didn't go to DB, I graduated from Volunteer, but I have to say the DB band is the best.

These are just a few. Many events are turned down because of expense. Many times it takes 9 buses.  As a family member that had siblings in the DB band I pay close attention to sound quality and overall performance.  I have never seen anything in Tennessee come close.  But oh how any band that can place higher than DB in anything will brag, but it is usually without merit as I said.  Some judges actually feel sorry for schools that go against DB. Sad that many regional band competitions sometimes give DB second on purpose.  You can lock up this thread now because this is a blowout for DB

D-B wins the award for loudest band. They also march really well, and for the amount of people that they have, that is amazing, but sound quality is not a positive characteristic of their band. And Macy's is a fantastic parade, but it's not a competition. BOA is a competition. Oh yeah, conspiracy theories don't exist.

Lawrence County's band is small but they are pumping out Beatles music this year. Do you get any better than that?

i think if any band plays Beatles music they should be considered a pretty good band because the Beatles are one of the best bands eva. DB might have as many people as UT's but that doesnt mean they are as good as UT. Anyways to be in UT's band you have to be selected. its not like you can pick band as a class or something

You don't have to be a great band just to play Beatles songs. Some of the Beatles stuff is quite easy. Just because I can play some Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn doesn't make me one of the best guitar players ever (I wish). I never was a big Beatles fan anyway.

I have an idea. Let's get everybody on coacht and tell them to post that their alma mater or a school they're affiliated with and say "They have the best band ever." How many best bands are there? I think they're can only be one....maybe we should get an annual Tennessee High School Band Competition going and decided every year. We'll have it at D-B so there's no excuses why they didn't go.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
