DB wins

Great game Patriots. The Defense did an awesome job giving up only 7 points to a team that scores 30+ consistently. Luther, Yeary and Hop, awesome job, LB's, and secondary, you did outstanding shutting out #1. Nothing to hang your heads about, DB, can say they played like crap all they want, but they played like crap because the Patriots Defense caused it.

WaCoJaCo--thanks for one of the most gracious and accurate responses from a DB fan. The talk about this being another "karns" is ridiculous! Karns was an away game (over 100 miles) against a team that played poorly all year and didn't make the play-offs. DB fans, give credit where it is due--you are good but so is JC. Shutting down two All-Americans in their house is a tribute to hard and smart play. Understanding our lack of adjustment in the second half as the key to the whole game is right on. The boys from Dumplin' Valley played well enough to win--the coaches had a great game plan, but did not adjust things well enough on the fly in the second half. Basically the game came down to that fact and two untimely turnovers. Good luck Tribe--you'll need it when we meet again! :D

IT WAS A WIN, AND THAT IS REALLY ALL THAT MATTERS.

Maybe the Indians will show up on Friday, beacause the Indians Team that played OR last week did not show up on Thurday Night. I guess we should have expected this let down after such a huge Road Win last week. DB was obviously overlooking the Patriots and it showed. Only 1 offensive TD and that was in the 4th qtr.

Funny, the Indians started to move the ball when they went to the running game.

Give Jeff Co credit. They had a great Defensive plan and they played it well. They only rushed 3 and dropped 8 and it gave Duran Duran alot of trouble. He rushed things, forced things and held onto the ball to long.

Half way to the playoffs and the TRIBE IS 5-0

ROLL TRIBE ROLL

GIDDY UP!!

JC4Life--you're a little tough on #11--the ball you're talking about was on the shoe tops on a slant--not an easy catch--unless you're talking about the one that was two yards behind him on another slant that was miraculous to just get a hand on.  The definition of a "drop" is a catchable ball that is definitely the receiver's fault for dropping--not not being able to make a great catch of a poorly thrown ball.

I`m not talking about that pass, I`m talking about the one late in the 4th quarter, when it was a perfect pass that hit Dallas in stride, and was dropped. The Patriots had trouble in the 2nd half because they were facing 3rd and long most of the time. In the first half, we were getting good yards on 1st and 2nd down, so we didn`t have to fact 3rd and long that much. BTW where the heck were all the tosses, and guard pulls that worked so well last week?

JC4Life--You got me on that pass--didn't see it--I guess I'll have to watch film--I don't remember any groans or moans--in fact I talked to Messy (wr coach) after the game who commented on not being able to get the ball to the receivers and how if both slants had been on target he felt Crouch could have taken it to the house. Oh well, fact is we had 170+ yards in the first half and negative yards in the second half with no first downs. One play did not make the difference (if one did it was the first half interecption but that was as much the line's fault as it was Ben's). I just think on these boards we point out too much individual stuff that tends to bring players down rather than build them up. That's why I had a problem with Backyard naming names to make another player look good. It's a team sport and that is what makes this year's Pat team different (and I believe better) than last year's team. On to Cocke County!

The fact is that Jefferson County's defense is just that good. DB showed up to play, they just couldn't because our defense shut them down. The reason that they were able to get the running game going in the 4th quarter is simple... Our defense had been on the field the ENTIRE 2nd half. Yes I know that the DB offense was out there, too, but there is a big difference. JC dominated most of the game and the story really is the 2 turnovers that resulted in 14 points for DB.

JC will more than likely not lose another game this season. Their defense is just too good, but they do need to figure some things out on offense... Maybe pass a little more in practice. I think it was a great game and hats off to both teams for an outstanding effort.

I don`t know if I would say the patriots dominated most of the game. We dominated the half on offense, but the in 2nd half DB, totally dominated on defense. Our defense played GREAT the whole game, we just didn`t get any help from our offense in the 2nd half. We should have passed more in the first half, when DB wasn`t blizing on every play. By the time we finally did decide to pass, the DB defense was swarming. The good thing is we have gone through the hardest part of our schedule and our record is 2-2 (should be 3-1) As I said before the season, if we can survive the first 4 game, we`ll be fine. We have survived, so now its time to reak havoc the rest of the season.

Hey Jeff Co fans.  Where did all the pre-season Euverard skeptics go?  I guess nobody can be skeptical of Euverard now.  He is just what Jeff Co needed. Sounds like he does not put up with any crap from his players either.

What can they say? His coaching skill shows on the field, but there will always be skeptics.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
