1. Midway- mix up the fronts, prowl around, very physical, somewhat dirty.

2. Greenback-well coached, very hard-nosed, physical LB's, huge MLB, weaker than Midway on the DLine, pretty good Secondary.

3. Oneida- pretty physical up front, better last year than this year in the secondary, 84 is a difference maker

4. Coalfield- speed, speed, speed... Not very physical, again speed off of the edge. Speed in the secondary. Speed at LB. Weakest on the Line. Not very sure tacklers anywhere on the Defense. Pass rush is only a factor against teams who can't throw on time and protect. If you can throw on time, you can throw on them.

Kaz's take on Region 2-A Defenses:

1. Midway is the pick here too. They have been very efficient with both their ability to stop the run and pass. They also appear to bring the most physical presence throughout their lineup. You can score on them, but you must be able to mix it up with them in the trenches. Their linemen allow the LB's and Backs to make plays for them by not allowing offensive linemen to release up field and make secondary blocks or seal off the pursuit. If your going to succeed against this defense your going to have to create lanes for your backs to run in and stretch the secondary with the deep ball to keep them from loading up on the running game. Easier said than done.

2. Greenback and Oneida(tie) both of these defenses are solid all around which makes it hard for offenses to exploit weaknesses. Greenback is very good at LB and the secondary keeps things in front of them. If they are going to get attacked it has to start up front. Oneida has some excellent defenders with one all-star at each point. Cross(line), Lewallen(LB), and Douglas(S), are as talented as any three defenders in the region. Breakdowns in critical points have hampered this unit this year. They have been tough lately!

3. Coalfield is the quickest team in the district, but even though they arrive on time they sometimes over pursue. Tough bunch, though! May make believers of us all if they can neutalize Midway's power running Friday.

:lol:B)

Right now, Oneida is playing as good a defense as anyone in the region has played at any point this year. For the season, though, I'd have to give Midway the top spot, with Oneida second and Greenback third. I would almost put the Cherokees in second because Oneida has had some real breakdowns defensively (first quarter of the Greenback game especially). I'll say this: Greenback's defense is 100 percent better than everyone thought it would be in the pre-season. Tomorrow night will tell the tale on which D is better.
