Tommorrow night McCallie plays Temple and it got me to thinking: What are the best high school rivalries in the truest sense of the what that means. McCallie and Temple will play each other twice this year as they always do. And the sportsmanship in these games over the years has been outstanding. There is mutual respect player to player and the coaches are both good men who respect each other greatly and the games are a war.

 

0When all is said and done, the players still have respect for each other and give props for their opponents as they should and the coaches hang out together. It is what makes high school bb what it should be.

for district 7-aaa teams its oakland. oakland has been so successful for so long that they are the standard for how good you are in district 7, they may not win district every year but they are always at the top.

 

now for oakland its a different matter. oakland's 2 biggest rivals are riverdale and siegel. even with siegel built, oakland-riverdale is still a very fierce rivalry on the hardwood and for those die hard fans on both sides, its still regarded as a huge win no matter how you win it.

 

an upcoming one is oakland-siegel. 4 of siegel's starting 5 played freshmen ball at oakland so this is a very big game for these guys. the students bewteen these 2 schools absolutely just dont like each other and with siegel becoming a big time contender this year, look for this rivalry to go up about 10 notches. in the next couple of years, oakland-siegel may very well be one of the best rivalries in the state thumb

For the best game... Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett vs Johnson City Science Hill.

They hate eachother. No hand shaking, no props to the other side, no well-wishing for the rest of the season. Both teams and fans really dislike the other... That is good stuf!!

Cosby is known for several rivalries. My top three:

Every High School has a great rivalry with somebody. Ooltewah and Central was a big rivalry I was a part of. I still reminisce that day we beat them with a 3 pointer in the last second of the regional (I think, might have been district) every Ooltewah fan just stormed the court and went completely crazy.

culleoka vs. santa fe is one of the best rivalries i think it always produces good games and the atmosphere in either gym is electric always good to watch and if youve never seen these two play i suggest you come watch this year....the first one was awesome

the Dobyns-Bennett/Science Hill basketball games have made some of the best in the last couple years, I believe it was last years game @ Johnson City that was the best out of the whole season, even though DB lost

Bartlett and Bolton games are always great games. One of those " throw out the record books" affairs. Crowds are always packed and really loud. Ya can't beat arch-rival match-ups.

Friday night one of the best rivalries in Tennessee high school basketball will be available for those who decide to come. White County at Cookeville. It's more than just a game it's pure hatred. Cookeville hates Sparta and Sparta hates Cookeville. It is a huge rivalry not matter what sport. The sport could be checkers and both towns would be their just to make sure their city wins.

Cheatham County vs. Sycamore is a great rivalry. They play they're first of 2 regular season games this Friday at Sycamore. It should be a great game. Both teams always play a little tougher no matter what in this game.

I agree scaooni22, Sycamore and Cheatham is a great rivalry, but its a different type of rivalry cuz it is not a we hate u but we hate losing to u rivalry. And before and after the game we are friends, but during the game it is a whole new story my friend. Cant wait till Friday!!!
