State Record for Takedowns

Though I have no details about individuals, Coach Bray was right to cite Hunters Lane under Coach Doug Newman, father of Mike Newman (McCallie). Since I coached against Hunters Lane during those years, I feel partially responsible for Doug's success.

Coach Bray looks like Bucanan's record was broken the next year

MOST TAKEDOWNS IN ONE SEASON BY A WRESTLER

487 Joe Warren, East Kentwood (MI) HS, (1994-95) Coach Rick Smith

I'm referring only to Tennessee. I know some of the greats would be up there, Markese Nelson, Charles McTorry, Matt Keller, Phillip Simpson, Jordan Leen, Matt Sweeton, Kyle James, Darren McKnight, Casey Brewster, David Vance, Kevin Ward, Jake Yost, I'm sure these guys have tons.

why is this thread about takedowns. why not pins or wins. i could have 5 million takedowns and get pinned every match. how about who has the most near fall points? i honestly did not know takedowns went towards the record books.

Because I started the thread and I would like to know. Everyone has that "start new topic" button if they don't want to talk takedowns.

Impressive, but are these just high schools which kept records? Do or did Connell, Morgan or Langsdon even keep up with the stat. I can see pins and victories. I mean, is someone out there keeping up with escapes?

think about the math on what Joe Warren did for a second (487 in a year).

give yourself 50 matches--a heavy, if not impossible schedule.

10 takedowns a match --might not sound like a lot, but how often do you see 20 points on the scoreboard?

also, factor in Close matches--he couldn't have taken EVERYBODY down 10 times.

put all that together, and that is one VERY Impressive accomplishment- which is why I consider it one of the top Records in Wrestling.

Don't know if you guys got a chance to see the Georgia state finals on TV the other day, but the kid wrestling 112 from Cherokee High School, Rucker, set the the national record for takedowns this year. He had 496 going into the state tournament. I think he had 472 last year and has 2 more years to go.
