Martin Luther King and Haywood

Probably one of the best first round match-ups, Haywood versus Martin Luther King will be a battle between the power offense and power defense. Can the Royals make it 2 straight semi-finals? Or is Haywood simply to much for the Royals?

I am looking for some serious insight... I really don't know much about Haywood

Haywood has good defense too.....they can play slow or fast ball......6'7 and a 6'8 center......average over 6 block shots a game......shooting guard who can nail down  the three's......a good sophomore coming off the bench too...can play 8 guys.

Just by looking at Haywood's schedule this year, it is plainly obvious that they have plenty of firepower on the offensive end of the court. The Tomcats average right at 77 points per game. They have outscored the likes of Mitchell, Fayette Ware, and Jackson North Side. They lost the first game to Bolivar in a high scoring affair, but the second loss to Bolivar was more of a grind it out type of game. That is exactly what MLK is gonna try to do in this one. The Royals are a team that tries to control the tempo of the game. That means that they want for this game to reach no higher than 50 points, which is exactly the opposite of what Haywood has been doing all year long. The Royals did that to Bolivar last year in the semifinal classic matchup, but the leadership of Kemp, Becton, Walker, and Lake proved to be too much in the end. That is exactly what Haywood needs to win this game. If the Tomcats start forcing the issue and jacking up wild shots, then they be down by 10 early. That is what makes Doc's MLK team so good. They execute offensively when they get a lead and a 10 point lead for MLK is like having a 25 point lead for most teams. Johnny Lee makes great decisions as the floor general for the Royals and he rarely if ever takes bad shots. I think that the unique style of MLK will confuse the high octane Tomcats, thus they will be slowed down drastically. MLK will win this game by around 5-6 and Haywood will not hit 60-points in the game thumb

i know MLK will slow the game down drastically but i doubt it will have Haywood too sonfused. Haywood has faced a similar style in their 2 games with Bolivar and they played both games down to the wire...one game went to double ot. They have good size in their post players and they have one of the best pure shooters in the state to kick it back outside to, that being Lee Liggens. it stinks that these 2 have to meet in the first round cause both are capable of winning it all but im gonna take Haywood by 5.

Haywood is a very good team playing really well right now...If this game had been played last week I would have said Haywood pretty easily...But with the layoff it may have slowed down the Tomcat momentum..But,maybe not...They have played a schedule that will have prepared them for anyone...You might think with a possible matchup with Bolivar looming,Haywood might be overlooking the Royals??...Don't bet on it...

I say Haywood by 8.....

The matchup with Haywood will be a good one for your team. Dont just look at the scores of their games and think they cant slow it down and play with you. If thats the tempo you want I believe they can adjust to that. Your team will be full court pressed which if you are not careful will speed up the tempo. When you get in the half court they play good half court defense too. They have size at 6'7 and 6'8 and are good shot blockers. They also have guards and small forwards that jump and rebound like big men. How much size does MLK have I havent really heard alot about the matchups? I heard Coach Patino was supposed to be picking up tape on MLK and he has a week to disect it. He will have a game plan in place for them. It should be a good matchup. I dont think MLK will be totally able to dictate the pace of the game. They will have to play some up tempo.

This will be a great game. Whoever the winner is will likely have to play Boliar in the semis and Raleigh-Egypt to win it all. This is the toughest route to a title but either team is capable of it. If Haywood dictates tempo they will win. If not, it will come down to the wire. If the score is in the 60's or more, Haywood wins. In the 50's is anybody's game. Under 50 MLK wins. Ive seen both play and my pick is

Haywood 62-50 but I could be wrong and am pulling for the Royals. thumb

Can you feel the team tightning up yet? DL is in the final four even dispite playing pretty poorly. We have the day off to recoup and you get Haywood. Winning the Region 4 tournament was sweet, but MLK losing to Haywood and DL advancing past you would be too much to handle. In one way, having two teams in District 8 in the final four would help to quite down the Memphis crowd. Good luck in the morning, you will need it.

btown,  what are you talking about?  Mustang maniac just said that it would quiet the Memphis crowd down if there were two teams from District 8AA in the semifinals.  Obviously, he wasn't talking about you, Bolivar or Haywood.

btown has been uptight all week. i think he is nervous about his chances this week. The field seems more talented than last years and they know whoever they have to face in the semi-finals and championship rounds will be great teams. Not back to MLK I am about to head out to the buro to see what I think is the best first round match-up. Haywood and Mlk have combined for 8 losses on the year and all the losses are to great teams, so this is going to be one heck of a game.
