David O'Connor from Giles County makes a lot of sense here.  He's done it all in Pulaski already and with Giles competing in the Metro region I'm sure he would inquire about a change in venue.  He's a very good football mind for sure.

Didn't O'Conner accept the Lincoln County job for about 8 minutes, then return to Giles County before he had even turned his Keys into Giles?

I agree.   If he did leave, it would have to be a much better opportunity than this one.

In all honesty,  the disappointment that Lincoln County has become lately lies solely on the shoulders of the school board.  I believe Don Thomas did the best he could do with what he had. When they decided to split up the school it killed Lincoln County football. They are reaching if they expect it will return to the glory days under the current system.

I can imagine the struggles LC must be going through. Their old system was very similar to ours in Henry County. The vast majority of our talent comes from the city middle school. Cutting off that pipeline would effectively kill HC football, or at the very least make it a shell of itself. Not to say we get no talent from the county middle school, we definitely get some, but over all, it's mostly a "city provides the talent, county provides the depth" kinda thing.

On the bright side for Lincoln Countians, Fayetteville HS should be a force most years at the lower level. I know they've already had a couple of really good seasons in their first few years. That program should only improve with time as its roots get more deeply entrenched in the community.

Still, it's hard to replicate the strength in numbers provided by consolidation. Not to mention the unanimous countywide fan support. That will likely always be missed. Similarly, Dickson County's football program has died a slow death since Creek Wood opened. I would imagine the same would happen here if another HS ever opens. I know there are things much more important than football in play, but it really sucks seeing some of these old, tradition-rich county schools go by the wayside.

It is truly a shame what has happened to Lincoln County football, which was all created by a few in the school board that were bound and determined to return to the days of yesteryear when Fayetteville High School reigned!  These same people honestly believed that their new city school would dominate small ball athletics across the state of Tennessee because they would be playing 1A football with 6A talent as they would say.  I don't know what the heck that means, but, Ray Charles could see what was about to happen to the football program at Lincoln County High School.  Now, you have a once proud program that is a shell of itself and the other that hasn't even come close to being what those that created it had envisioned.  Best of luck to the next head coach!

What wrong with playing with metro?

If O'Connor were excited about playing in 5-3A then why did Giles County petition to the TSSAA to try to be moved to 6-3A?  Metro.  I saw it with the Cheatham County Cubs vs the Metro schools in the 1990s.  It was always a major uphill challenge for those guys to compete against those powerhouses.

    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
