  1. I am anxious to see how Bearden's kids respond after a win. Football in the Knox area was more fun when Bearden was tough a few years ago. Here's to hoping they continue to improve.
  2. As a longtime friend and fan of Coach Gaylor, since way back to his Clinton days, this is very sad news for the Maryville community and East TN football fans alike. I do not know the extent of his situation, but I do know that he has some substantial health and family concerns. Football can become unimportant very quick when life hits us. I wish Coach Gaylor the very best, and will certainly be praying for him and his family. As for the game tomorrow night, both teams are dealing with adversity. However, both teams are champions for a reason. This will be a great high school football game and make an ET football fan like me very proud. Good luck both ways.
  3. That was a great TV game last night... many explosive plays. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way!
  4. 74-58. And it wasn't that close. No dog in this fight... but c'mon.
  5. I think its pretty obvious that Maryville is gonna come out pumped.... its Maryville and they know what they have to do. To say that Mcminn playing with emotion means nothing I think is wrong. Just think about the Alcoa game for the past 10 years before this year... Alcoa come out jumping around all rah rah, after about the first couple series all that adrenaline starts to slow down, and the big red machine just keeps rolling I think 101 hit the nail on the head earlier. This game will come down to the QB play. Its all about decision making and whoever does a better job of it friday night between Juhlin and Ables will put their team in a better position to win the game. That being said, I think Maryville is good enough for Phillip to struggle and still win. I do not think Ambles can play bad and Mcminn still win. Maybe it is a blowout, but I like many others, don't see this one getting near as bad as last time. Thanks Stars for refreshing my memory on the the old Central teams... I honestly had forgotten how much talent they had. Boy those were some fun games to watch. No doubt about it Region 3-4A was tough.
  6. Best All Around Post- Glory Johnson, Webb Best All Around Guard- Katie Brooks, Heritage Best All Around Shooter- Bailie Roberts, Maryville I think all three of these girls definately deserve to be at least nominees for the award. Glory is so much more athletic than others its ridiculous. Katie Brooks handles the game so well she is ultimately the reason Heritage is having such a great year. Bailie Roberts has the best pure jump shot I have seen in a long time. She also is a banger down low. Scary thing is she is just a junior. Check out their stats coacht, those girls deserve it.
  7. I think Quarles is happy where he is. I also beleive Maryville will be fine next year and are very likely to experience another 15-0 season, but you never know if another team has a world of talent and a great year. Lets not forget in 2005 Maryville had to replace 10 of 11 starters on offense including a new QB. I believe MHS rolls.
  8. I see what your saying now Irish... I was comapring him at a high school level and you at a college level... that is why we were disagreeing. Etbball- I know the man personaly, love him to death and would show no disrespect to him, you took it the absolute wrong way
  9. Irish Im gonna have to disagree with you about Damron. I think he will make an excellent point guard at the next level wherever that may be because he has great ball handling skills and is definitely quick enough. You are crazy if you do not believe he is a good athlete. Some of the acrobatic shots he was putting up in the lane in front of Simpson stunned me. And in warmups when I was watching he was dropping the ball through the goal from over top... at 6 foot thats a great vertical leap... not athletic??? That being said I think he would make a perfect fit at a carson newman or King. But the kid is for sure quick and athletic enough to play with the big boys. Size and strength become the issues. And Scout about the assistant coach, you obviously didnt catch the sarcasm.
  10. I attended this game last night and I have to say it was one of the best high school basketball games I have ever seen. It was back and forth the whole game and alot of fun to watch. Both of these teams are coached very well and both have the athletes to take them to state. This will be a battle for the district and region. As for my thoughts on the game: Breaden has more depth than Maryville does right now, that may change however by the time they meet again. Jenkins is Bearden's best player by far however he did guard Damron all night before he fouled out and he put up 42!!! Simpson is a good player down low but did not dominate the boards like I thought he should have... still he scored 27 that shuts me up. Jenkins makes dunking look so easy. And I cant believe the craig kid from bearden is not in the startng lineup, he does the little things so well (boxes out, defends, follows shots) I thought he should have played more. Its obvious Coach Blevins is a fabulous coach and all his Breaden teams are very fundamentaly sound. As for Maryville they do not have much of a bench right bow. They did have some kids that looked like they had potential but when they were in late in the game they looked scared to death. Click is ALOT better than last year... he does a lot of things well nad can even bang down low. Lambert is a pure shooter and when you get up in his face he will take you to the whole. Click and Lambert are capable to put up 20 on any night. Reynolds has developed a mini hook shot that I never saw last year that he scored most of his 17 on. Walker is a solid defender and kept Beardens PG in check all night... he is also a very intense player. And finally, Ill go ahead and make a BOLD prediction: Damron will carry this team back to the state tournament... He shot alot last night, but my lord he hit most of em... that kid is one heck of a player and can drain 3's; he is very quick with the dribble and to the whole before you know it. Coach E does a great job of putting these kids in position to make plays... I like what he is doing at MHS. Also Maryville has the best assistant coach in the state: scott west; now this guy has some intesity
  11. Ok... I feel sorry for the true WB fans because somebody who is probably not even a WB gets on here and says something like that guy said and then everyone start bashing WB..... Listen, MEDOWSisGOD is not a true WB fan, probably just an immature college student who is trying to get something started.... HAHA he even spelled Meadows Wrong!!!! SO.... Lets get back to the game folks...
  12. Brandon im tired of reading what you have to say about Maryville. I am not from Maryville nor do I cheer for them but I watch them play because I love watching good football. And like FB emeritus said nobody cares what you have to say anymore stay on the BA thread. Rebelron, agree to disagree pal. Now I know you know your Maryville football like nobody else on this earth, however, I believe if you lined last year's Maryville's team up against any other they would prevail. That being said, the 2002 was great! They were so much fun to watch and what amazes me is how good a team they beat in the state championship that year. That hillsboro team was incredible. I will give the you this rebelron... the two best teams Maryville has BEATEN at state were definitely the 2002 Hillsboro team and the 2005 Melrose. That 2005 Melrose team had the fastest defense I have ever seen in high school football. However, it ended up working against them due to Quarles' trickeration from one side of the field to the other. Quarles would roll Hunt one way, then throw to Douglas on the other side. Or throw to shiver then back across the field to Tallent....Genius! I see this Maryville team ending up like the 2003 Maryville team. I do hope I'm wrong because I would like to see this streak go for while. Maryville represents Tennessee with absolute class and hard work. They play high school football like it should be played. They do not worry about making outsiders happy and going to play nationally ranked schools. They play their region and county foes and that is how it should be. High school football is great fun whether its two county teams or two teams ranked in the top ten. It makes no difference to me. I love high school football and a team should not change its schedule to play better teams just because they are successful. Great game friday night. I have a lot of respect for those two teams and they play so hard. Good luck to the rebs and cats the rest of the way out. Those two teams could very well meet again.
  13. Ill answer that question for you pudding. I have been to many Maryville games 1998 and the only ones i do not go to are the wekks that two other big teams are playing. I can tell you that last year no team in the state would have beaten Maryville, hands down. Im sure many disagree with me but I can tell you they had it at every position and executed like a finely tuned machine. This years team is a different story... While still a great football team, many of the 5a and DII teams i believe would be able to beat Maryville. Maryville still might win against these teams but they are not as good as they have been the past two years. Last year was the best Maryville team I have ever seen. I guess we will find out in the coming weeks if any 4a teams can knock them off.
  14. But don't be surprised if the Bobcats give them a major scare. Now he's starting to come around... Maryville wins big... however I hope I'm wrong becuase I want to see a good football game... BUt to be honest I was just spoiled last week at WB (what a game)
  15. I have watched thousands of high school football games in the state of Texas and Florida and Tennessee. I have been watching Maryville games the past years when I moved here simply because I love watching a good football team... And tonight was one of THE GREATEST GAMES I HAVE EVER SEEN period. WB is a great team and Maryville was Maryville. WB fans you have something special coming for you this year and I promise you this loss will only help your team. Your coaches can now see what they need to work on whereas if they had been playing a cupcake you would have learned nothing. Hopefully this will only motivate WB and I do believe they win BE hosting... Hoisting!!! the gold ball at the end of the year. As for the Maryville and the gold ball Im not so sure yet. The 4-a teams from West Tennessee always bring a great team and Maryville definitely has some holes to fill. However, they do have coach Quarles and his gameplans will give them a chance in any game. If they can develop a little bit of a running game they can bring it home... again. Great luck to both teams and thanks to all for putting on a great show. (By the way, PAT was no good I was standing directly behind the left upright) ***The score very well should have been 21-20
  16. I think Papa Chaos broke the game down better than anyone has yet.... Quarles and co. 42 Meadows and co. 28...... This game will be exciting until the very end and I can honestly say I haven't been this excited for a football game at any level since back when I was playing the game. Good luck to both teams, hope its injury free and absolutely cannot wait to watch good football.
  17. Whichever team coach Quarles is on thats the team im taking... GQ- 42, other team 28
  18. Read my earlier post DL... theres your story take your pick.
  19. If they are gonna do a story on Maryville, they should just do the 2000 season... Maryville opened up 0-4 then won out and won the state championship... Hows that for a story. Personally though I believe last years team was the best Maryville team I have ever seen. Now before any Maryvillians jump on me im saying thats just my opinion. But they had talent and depth at every position. 2 QBs (with with a cannon (Burnette) and the other that could do about anything you wanted him to it seemed...Hunt) 2 very good backs (one was a "tank" and the other could catch). 3 great wrs (one going to UT and others on their way somewhere, and the biggest tight end i have seen at the high school level. There defense was great as usual as well. But the 3 that stood out were caylor, wood, and hall. They would nock your head off. Now if i was making a movie about Maryville, it would either be on the 0-4 team that won state, or what I believe is the best team Maryville has ever had.. the 2006 team This coming not from a Maryville fan but from someone who enjoys watching a good football team.
  20. I have no idea what is keeping Lenior City from winning football games because I am not from around nor am I at practice every day watching everything that happens. However, I know for a fact it is not the coaching or coaching schemes. Just from watching LC play in the past few years the offense they run is very very similar to many great football teams like for example.... Maryville. I was at the LC maryville game two years ago and I saw many of the same plays ran against eachother. I promise you Coach knows his stuff. Plus he is a great role model for teenage kids. As for the winning goes, I think its a litle more commitment that it needed from the players. JMO though like I said I do not have the answer.
  21. Papa hit the nail on the head... What kind of stupid 5a school would want to come and get embarassed by Maryville?? Now of course im joking for all you Maryville haters, but seriously... Maryville's toughest game this year will be William Blount although it wont look like it after the game is over. However, I believe that whatever team Maryville plays in the state championship game will be able to beat the govs. Saying that I truly hope the govs win the 5a state championship for a few reasons... 1) IF maryville beats them (and i did say IF) then the 5a talk should stop but wont... 2) That could possibly bring 3 gold balls back to Blount County.... 3) Classy guys like Govman deserve state championships
  22. Your both wong.... I am the fountain of wisdom.....
  23. No question South Doyle is a better team this year. A win is a win and geting one against Carter will shoot SD's confidence sky high (which is what teams like SD need). Teams like Maryville, Alcoa, DB, Oak Ridge etc. go into games expecting to win, and that is the difference between a good team and a great team. So can SD start out 2-0, sure they can. Saying that Ryan will play games with the SD secondary with 4 tds. Winner>>> WEST
  24. I think Halls takes the win.... but its close
  25. Well you guys know how the saying goes... Quarles will take his and beat yours, and he could take yours and beat his. Now for Clinton id love to see that.
