  1. Let me put my 2 cents worth in here. I'm actually a graduate of Clinton H.S., but have lived in Coalfield over 30 yrs. Looking forward to seeing this Wartburg/Coalfield game. It's unique, my old school colors are orange and black, and the same school letter "C" is also Clinton's and Coalfield's. But I've attended far more of the Coalfield games because the football field is within walking distance. Good to hear John T is going to Carson Newman and Ricky Lowe to Tusculum.....Coach Kreis was playing at UT while I was in H.S., and he's always been a legend in the Tri-County area. See you folks at the games. Maybe in a few years the Clinton Dragons will come back around.
  2. Cheer up Mustangs. The Knoxville Useless Senseless, oops, I mean News Sentinel has far worse coverage than the Tennesseean.
  3. Same here. GO LADY BOBCATS AND TIGERS!!
  4. I've heard WECO disagree with some calls, but Keith would say, "But I'm not paid to make those decisions." No flagrant negativity. But I did hear Sunbright's girl's coach Stephens comment after a game a few years ago on the air, "They sent Mutt & Jeff to referee tonight."
  5. I've been waiting a couple years for TankTalk's book "1001 Things I Hate about TSSAA" to hit the shelves.
  6. I don't mean to change the subject, but approx. how many fans does the Clinton gym seat??
  7. Anyone know who won the Scott/Loudon and Greenback/Oneida games? <-----They were never posted in the Scoreboard [Edited by orangenblack on 12-14-02 1:52P]
  8. This article was copied and pasted out of the newspaper and isn't my opinion. Just wanted to post it and see if any CoachT members attended the meeting or felt like adding their two cents worth. I imagine it was the reporter's wording of "invited" to a playoff berth and not Teddy Phillips. He played in the 1992 Clinic Bowl, and knows how the system works. Clinton starters were mostly freshmen and sophomores this year, so you can't put all the blame on the coach for their losing efforts.
  9. Right now the AAA championship game for the state of Louisiana is being covered on WWL 870 and they announced the attendance at 23,875. They play the 4A and 5A tomorrow.
  10. by Donna Smith "The Oak Ridger"staff CLINTON -- A Clinton High alumnus appeared before the Anderson County Board of Education Thursday night to "demand a change" in the Clinton High football program leadership. Although 1993 Clinton High graduate and former All-State Tight End Ted E. Phillips Jr. didn't mention Dragons Football Coach Kevin Catlett by name, he highlighted the team's statistics over the four years that Catlett has served as coach. Phillips also outlined a list of areas where the team's leadership is disappointing to him. At Thursday's School Board meeting in the Robert L. Jolley County Administration Building, Board Chairman John Burrell said the board could do nothing to aid him in his quest for a change. "The board is aware of this," Burrell said, "Where the state has put us is out of the personnel business." Questioned after the meeting, Director of Schools Jim Stewart said it would be up to the principal, Tom Heffern, to make any changes in the football program leadership. Phillips said the football team's statistics for the past four years show they have lost 29 games and won 11 for a "28 percent winning percentage." The team has not been invited to any playoff games in the past four years, he said. The positive aspects of the football program are the freshmen team, the assistant coaching staff and the medical staff, he said. But the program is plagued by disorganization and a lack of communication, Phillips said. Giving examples, he said the team has been one hour late for its scrimmages with the Soddy-Daisy team. In addition, he said only one spring scrimmage was scheduled this year, although an assistant coach did see the problem and schedule two more. Phillips said players are absent for practice, but they still get to play in Fridays' games. Players have not been wearing proper equipment at those games, he said. The man said that items -- both players' personal items and the team's equipment and uniforms -- have been stolen from the field house and showed up at garage sales. Phillips said $10,000 in equipment was rotting outside the field house. Pointing to participation and morale, Phillips said that the team had not been invited to play in any football playoffs in the past four years. Few boys are trying out for the team, he said. The school boardroom was filled with people apparently interested in Phillips' message, since most of them left when his speech was over. Phillips frequently compared the football program to business. He said the program was failing in building boys' discipline and character; failing in instilling them with skills and giving the area a good image; and failing in winning. The Oak Ridger left messages for Heffern and Catlett on the school's answering machine Friday morning, but the calls were not returned by deadline. --------------------------------------------- Donna Smith can be contacted at (865) 220-5502 or dsmith2@oakridger.com. 11. Are there any rules regarding coaches openly criticizing officials in the newspapers and on the radio? I got a kick out of a coach on the radio a couple years ago. He said they sent Mutt & Jeff to officiate the game.
  12. Swamp, I'm listening to the same thing, and meant to post a thread about it until I saw yours. What they're saying essentially is coaches at two Memphis schools say that a pipeline of student-athletes were moving into Memphis from all over the eastern U.S. and getting paid by Bama. Guess what? These two coaches reported it to Ronnie Carter and he ignored it, and said they didn't know what they're talking about. As Swamp says, it may be a crock [Edited by orangenblack on 12-13-02 3:58P]
  13. I know what you mean, OSHSman. We lived in the city limits in Anderson County, and the Roane County line was 100' from our back property line. And the Morgan County line was about a mile away. However, people were going to Oliver Spgs. High from Anderson Co. before Norwood was annexed.
  14. Is this a new T$$AA rule? Last year I saw megaphones at games.
  15. Put the megaphone on top your head when you go into the gym and if the refs hassle you tell them it's a hat. Surely they can't ban articles of clothing. [Edited by orangenblack on 12-12-02 11:31A]
  16. I still think Boyd Buchanan was the best. Sure, they had a bad first half against CPA. But no doubt they were better than any 1A, 2A, or 3A team I saw during the regular season. Maybe even as good as Oak Ridge in 5A.
  17. It's withdrawal symptoms from football season ending. Why not let everyone fight over recruiting, public/private issues and such for a few days and get it out of their system?
  18. Back up to the second post on this thread, it's there. [Edited by orangenblack on 12-11-02 6:22P]
  19. UT at Knoxville!! I realize it wasn't at a high school game, but it was pretty funny, anyway.
  20. The funniest sign I saw was at a football game. It said "If You Think We're Awful Now, Wait Till Basketball Season."
  21. I don't know a lot about Rockwood basketball yet, but they definitely have my favorite h.s. coach. I get a kick out of listening to that guy talk. Good luck Rockwood Tigers!!
  22. Queenie, CoachT, anybody, I have a question, too. What would happen if you gave someone a bad mark by accident? I never plan on giving anyone a bad mark, but if you click the wrong box giving someone a good mark, do you get a warning or anything?
  23. I've never understood the situation in Oliver Springs. O.S.H.S. is a Roane County School, and Norwood Middle is in Anderson. Usually about half of Norwood's graduates cross the county line and attend O.S. I can't blame them, it's so much closer. However, I attended Clinton High because in the late 1960's they had a brand new school, and their math, science, and English depts were equal to Oak Ridge at the time. Now, please, no one bash me, but I know for sure back in those days O.S., O.R., and Clinton ALL recruited Norwood athletes. So it happens everywhere, and has for a LONG TIME. What's the deal with students crossing the county line to attend O.S.? I have no problem with it, just curious.
  24. Yep, I didn't think you'd be old enough to remember, Goose. FD was a legend. And Coalfield football just ain't the same.
