  1. Bradley will be solid this year but not like the recent Bradley teams. They have some pretty good kids at their upper weights and Devaney down low. After this year is when they will have some work to do.
  2. Not sure of the entire top 5 but my top 2 would be Mason Reiniche and Michael Kramer. To me those two clearly have the best accolades and both won sophomore nationals this past spring. I know Kramer has never won a state title in high school but I don't see there being too many other kids as dominate as he will be the next two years.
  3. Just checked, Derek was announced as the head coach on the CBHS twitter account on May 11, and the Flight Time Duals where the coaching link occurred was on May 20
  4. Yes that is the rule. It only applies to students who have an athletic record in a tssaa sanctioned sport and does not include tmsaa. What I mean by what I said is that I think in the sport of wrestling and maybe others that there are so many opportunities now outside of the scholastic season and some programs may just either not have a club team or may not have a separate high school coach and club coach so if lets say a club put together a traveling team, and invited kids that are in high school to wrestle on that team that didn't go to say the certain high school that club was meant to serve, and the club coach and the high school coach are the same person, if any of those students who are already in high school just wanted to transfer there because it was a better program or say if for whatever reason a family had to move that student is automatically ineligible if they have wrestled for any member of the high school staff in the past 12 months. I hope I am making sense here but all I'm trying to say is that now with all of the traveling teams, and national teams that we take to AAU Freshman/Sophomore Duals in Iowa and the Cadet and Junior national team trips, any athlete that wrestles on those trips is ineligible to wrestle for any coach that coached on that trip and I just don't think that's right. Maybe I'm wrong in thinking that but just my opinion.
  5. I agree completely with following the rules and trust me I know that there are rules that were broken I'm not saying that he should get away with anything. That's not what I meant, I just don't think that we should be on here talking about the kids but just my opinion. But maybe thats what this forum is for. But I for one do not agree with the coaching link rule. Not that my opinion matters but many programs do not have a separate coach for high school and say a club team, so if they had a student athlete that wanted to move into their program but had already been coached by that coach they would automatically be ineligible which I think is wrong. But yes rules are rules and they are put in place for a reason and are made to be followed.
  6. Do we not have anything better to talk about than whether kids are eligible or not? I coach at Cleveland and with Higher Calling and does losing Garrett hurt? It absolutely does but I would never wish that he wasn't eligible. I understand there are rules and that he may not be eligible but Garrett is one of the best wrestlers in the state of Tennessee by far and if you do not agree then you don't know wrestling so for that reason alone I hope he is eligible because he is fun to watch. I am all for following the rules but the fact that a bunch of grown men have to sit behind a computer and laugh that a kid might not be eligible is down right embarrassing. I would have loved for Garrett to stay in our program but things happen and it is what it is. Good luck stud. If you have a problem with what I said let me know. Evan Vermillion
  7. I have been on a couple conference calls and the positions that have been voted upon the names were just given during the call. I don't know all of the positions but Ben Bowers is president and Derek Harrison is Vice President
  8. Don't quote me on this but as far as I know you just throw your name out there, might have to be nominated or some one second your entry and then a vote occurs. But I could be wrong.
  9. It's usually later on in the fall. Just curious if anyone has heard of anyone that wants to put their name out there as a candidate for any positions?
  10. Joey McKenna isn't a 125lber so I'm not sure how he would replace Suriano.
  11. Are there any Tennessee kids at FloNats this weekend?
  12. Nathan Wysong from Science Hill beat Calvin Martin from William Blount. Logan Whiteside from Cleveland beat Kyle Burns from Bearden, they were 3rd and 2nd in the state 2 years ago. There very easily could have been more those are just the two that I remember from being there.
  13. Noah wrestled. He lost in the round of 16 then lost again to Prep National Champ Drew Munch in the round to place I believe.
  14. http://arena.flowrestling.org/event/22da704b-0371-42d3-8c45-850fc7139862 Brackets are on FloArena
  15. Why do you say turf isn't great for high school kids? Football isn't my strong suit so I'm not sure what the downside of having it would be.
  16. I really could be wrong but I am almost positive Allan Jones had nothing to do with the turf. Maybe he did but I don't think so.
  17. I don't think it's my job to predict what would happen if that happened again next year. I think Heath does a great job and there is no doubt the kids love him because of his ability to build relationships with kids so I would really hope they wouldn't let him go because of a couple rough years. If it was a consistent issue over several years I would understand but with the success that UTC has had recently has a lot to do with the kids that were there but also a lot to do with Heath so obviously he is doing something right but UTC isn't Ohio State, Penn State, OK State where they can redshirt 2 guys and lose another and still be able to perform like they could with those guys in the line up. And even those teams, when they lose guys or have to sit guys for different reasons you can tell it effects their teams performance so why is it so alarming to fans of UTC that when we lose 3 guys that would have more than likely won their weight class at conference that we don't do as well at the conference tournament? Every team in every sport has a year that they don't do as well as others and when that happens you can't just throw all the success out the window and clean house.
  18. Heath redshirted 8th ranked Scottie Boykin and 14th ranked Mike Pongratz and had to suspend the conference MVP at 157. That's three NCAA qualifiers from last year that weren't wrestling this year. They would have probably won conference if he wrestled those guys this year, and next year with Pongo and Scottie back in the line-up they will be right back in the conversation to win the conference.
  19. I'm pretty sure Ezra Taylor won it in middle school. That's been 6-7 years ago
  20. I really don't understand why we choose to continue folkstyle for so long. Most programs start preseason at the latest in September, and we are still competing folkstyle into late April but freestyle and greco compete for one month. Whether your team/club competes in freestyle and greco or not I don't think you can argue the benefits that it has for the wrestlers that are competing in it so why not give them more time to compete in it? I don't know what the answer is and I don't think we will see a change in length of the schedule until we have tremendous growth in participation in the international styles but its a big disservice to the wrestlers that love competing in freestyle and greco that we only let them compete for a month. We wouldn't send our folkstyle wrestlers to the state tournament after just a month of competition so why are we doing that to our freestyle and greco wrestlers?
  21. To me Fowler over Wheaton at 126 was a pretty big surprise.
  22. There are quite a few studs this year that are in 8th grade. From Higher Calling alone, Trae McDaniel, Bradley Fiveash, Cael Laxton, Jackson Bradford. You've got two light weight guys in Mason Smith and Trey Bates going to Beech, Cooper Flynn at Seymour. I would think Cody Chittum would start for McCallie next year as an 8th grader like Alex Whitworth did this year. David Dixon who is wrestling for Boyd Buchanan right now will be a stud wherever he ends up. I'm sure there are many more I'm missing but those are the ones that I know.
  23. Gilmer, GA is coming to Cleveland Duals as well
  24. Nelson and Dewey Pendley for THS were both seniors this year.
