  1. Great line play, great improvement every week.
  2. Alcoa is a great team. Last year's team was one of the best in Tennessee history. This year's team is loaded across the board but QB play is the difference. You will win 3a on talent alone but to be considered elite you need a better signal caller.
  3. Lakeway at Catholic JV this Friday under the lights.
  4. Down the same old road they will travel!
  5. HTV, I respect what you post and I know that you have a wealth of knowledge in regards to High School sports. I know for a fact a young assistant interviewed this past week and if that's the level they are shooting for then they are not serious about winning at a high level. This hire should be a coordinator with a ton of experience or a head man that's had success at previous jobs. Anything else is underwhelming. I have lived in Hardin Valley since HVA opened and been a part of the youth sports league since its creation. I should have clarified the talent statement by saying the families reside in Hardin Valley, the talent unfortunately plays at Grace, Webb, CAK, and other other private programs. The writing was on the wall years ago when one of the most talented players left for TKA. I have had 2 kids graduate and play for HVA and I have a 3rd who is not playing at HVA. He's at one of the above privates. I could no longer watch what was taking place. Thank the stars Paul Maynard was part of the staff as he single handily was responsible for many of their successes. Again this is my respectful opinion from someone that lives in the shadow of the stadium.
  6. Fulton principle is now the HVA principal. This in my opinion will be a game changer for HVA If he is allowed to do what's best for the athletics programs. The list of candidates that have been interviewed is somewhat underwhelming. I imagine that list will upgrade rapidly with the hire of Rob Speas. There is State Championship talent in Hardin Valley and with the right hire it could come to fruition.
  7. Knoxville Catholic vs. Oakland at TTU on Friday, May 10th.
  8. Best of my recollection from last year is that Catholic has a mighty talented group of youngsters in that position already. It will be fun to see how he handles a little competition. Also from what i'm hearing, the classrooms over on Lonas are filling up quickly with a lot of talent.
  9. Bosken would have been at 4 schools in 4 years if that's the case. It's crazy to think they would make that offer.
  10. Not sure about 2021, but Knoxville Catholic had 7 Freshman, 2022, start and play a lot of important snaps this year. Knoxville area schools have a bunch of 2022 talent. It should be a very special class.
  11. Overall records does not impact region standings. Only head to head matters. So in the above scenario Soddy would be a higher seed than Catholic due to Soddy beating Catholic.
  12. Current 297 Class 1A 52 0-375 Class 2A 48 376-556 Class 3A 48 557-821 Class 4A 47 822-1102 Class 5A 54 1103-1508 Class 6A 49 1509 and greater New Idea 1A 74 0-480 2A 74 481-820 3A 74 821-1240 4a 75 1241 and greater 297 Very Doable in my opinion.
  13. First games are August 17th, 6 weeks out, and the first 2 weeks are TSSAA mandated non-contact heat acclimation practices. So in essence there are only 4 weeks of actual padded practice. See what I did there.
  14. 100% to benefit the team. As a youth coach I always tell parents he can be a backup at the position you want him to play, or he can start where I want him to play. We do allow players to tryout for any position they want during the first few practices to get a feel for the athletes. As far as rating the coaches, that answer depends on the organization. Some local teams, Knoxville, are great at developing players and doing what's best for the team. Most however just play their sons and forget everyone else exists. The athletic develop falls on the parents and what they are willing to invest in the off-season.
  15. http://tnhighschoolfootball.com/concord-christian-dropping-high-school-football-program-for-2018-season/ Scroll down and read the last part of the article. It sums up everything you need to know about the TSSAA.
  16. If you repeat the 7th or 8th grade and do not participate in sports at the school you are repeating the grade you will be eligible to participate in High School. In Knox County it's done every year. For example an 8th grader at Fulton repeats 8th grade by attending Grace. They play for Knox County rec league then there's no violation. The only way they lose eligibility is by playing for Grace during the repeat year. Go read section 7 on page 13 again and read the follow up on page 53.
