  1. They have a very athletic quarterback and running back. Very similar to Gordonsville in playing style. They don't make many mistakes either. However, I don't believe their supporting cast is as good as Gordonsville, plus making the long trip down to South Side of Smith County will not do them any favors. Gordonsville 27 Jo Byrns 8
  2. I just don't see Cornersville scoring 22 points. Clay held them to 12 (yet it somehow still ranked behind Cornersville in the AP) and one of those scores was a kickoff return giving them first and goal. Cornersville just doesn't have the passing necessary to keep the box from being loaded all night.
  3. I hope all the kids make it through with few symptoms during the COVID outbreak that will occur that week at South Pitt.
  4. That's why I say this poll and a dollar will buy you a Sweet Tea at McDonald's. Basically worthless.
  5. Clay is a much different team since the addition of the senior basketball players. Probably one of the most dangerous offensive teams to come through in years now having two lanky wideouts in addition to the speedsters. Losing the QB has hurt their defense though as he is a stellar linebacker.
  6. Should be a dandy of a game, but doubt it will top last year's contest for excitement.
  7. Should make for a good rematch in round 2 of the playoffs if things go as projected, except in Celina.
  8. Let me know your thoughts. Overall, I think pretty accurate ranking from the website that shall not be named. 1. Oakland 2. Maryville 3. Summit 4. Riverdale 5. Ravenwood 6. Hendersonville 7. Bradley Central 8. Collierville 9. Beech 10. Independence
  9. If you are going to vote in this poll, at least take five minutes to check the most recent scores from last week (and the first three for that matter). It is stuff like this that causes people to laugh at the AP poll.
  10. Absolutely. Leaving for personal issues or family matters would be one thing, but just bailing in the middle of the season for a better opportunity is extremely unprofessional. If that was the man in charge of my kids, I would be glad he was gone, and hopefully replaced with a better role model.
  11. Who do you have in this one? Jo Byrns is a difficult place to win for opposing teams.
  12. I agree. The Fayetteville player rolled over the Upperman defender and kept both knees off the ground. Great live ball call from the officials to let it play out correctly. Don't know that I would have got that right in live speed.
  13. Not the refs (despite that happening from time to time), but the atmosphere in general. Gordonsville supports their football program very well.
  14. If Clay County was hosting Gordonsville this year, it may be a route. However, since the game is at Gordonsville, I still give Gordy a fighting chance. That field alone is a three touchdown swing.
  15. Clay County will likely jump into the top 7, maybe top 5. Gordonsville win doesn't change much. 8 should beat 10 on their home field.
  16. Physicality at the line of scrimmage is arguably Clay's weakest part of their game. It definitely does not bode well for Cornersville if Clay's weakest area dominated them at their strongest area. However, Clay County can't celebrate this win too much, as one of the only two games that matter looms next week at Jo Byrns. That is a must win if they want to capture the region title.
  17. I just don't see Baxter being able to handle the athleticism of Fayetteville. Tigers by 14.
  18. Should be a good test for Clay County. This will be a good indicator to see if they finally take the region crown that has eluded them. This game, along with an always tough game at Jo Byrns, and a difficult finale at Gordonsville, will show just how far the Bulldogs have come now that they finally has upperclassmen who have played big roles since they were freshmen.
  19. I would pick Alcoa to beat Vandy after the way they looked last night. Holy crap they are terrible.
  20. Cameron Houston is a baller. Dude had 4 TDs covering all 3 phrases last week against DeKalb.
  21. I agree, a lot of the calls I see how no effect on the play. To me, it should only be called when it has a direct effect on the play.
  22. No it's not, I certainly wasn't trying to make it one. I would encourage more people to go put on the stripes, as the TSSAA barely has enough people right now in most areas to cover the games as needed, and there are lots of good officials who do not get the credit they deserve. With that being said, the shortage of officials has put some people out there who quite frankly aren't able to consistently apply the same standard for holding. To answer the original question, it is honestly what the official will let you get away with.
  23. Region games that are made up are a win for the team that could play and a no contest for the team that has to cancel. So theoretically, a team like Loudon could lose Friday to Daniel Boone but still have a "win" this week in the region standings. Clear as mud?
  24. You're lucky if you get that. I saw a perfect pass breakup (timing and technique were textbook) last week called unnecassary roughness. One of the worst calls I've ever seen. Official couldn't even see the ball either when he called it.
