TSSAA bias against USJ?

I would like to know if any other teams were told by the umpires (who were specifically instructed to tell USJ's Coach by the TSSAA) that their team had to stop celebrating by the dugout players meeting players with high fives etc. on their way back to the dugout. The umpires told our Coach that the bench players could not even leave the dugout to congratulate a player after a homerun.

IMO, the above is absurd and I'm guessing that USJ is the only team that recieved such instructions from the officials. The TSSAA needs to remember who these events are for-THE PLAYERS. It has always been tradition for players to leave the dugout to greet players that have made big plays and I sure hope the TSSAA is not headed toward taking away a lot of the fun of the game.

necvol, I know that it seems strange and does seem a little harsh to force a team to limit celebrations, but the TSSAA did stress at the state meeting and all local meetings and clinics (at least the 6 I attended) to not allow this to happen. It was explained that several teams complained that it should be considered taunting. I will admit that a lot of crews did not enforce it. Unfortunately, it sounds like you got one that did. Congratulations on a great season.

The TSSAA was out to get USJ, yep thats it.  You see they were trying to even the playing field a little bit.  Next year i hear they are going to provide transportation from Riverside for a star player for all the teams. :P  I can't wait till next year.  Have fun in AA and stop crying you won!

What's to look forward to in baseball next year in Adamsville? Let's see, USJ will be gone, Adamsville will still play .500 ball and they still won't make it beyond the district tournament. So you see, USJ is not your problem, never has been. Find something else to talk about after you clean your own closet. :(

Necvol,

I appreciate what a loyal fan you are, but sometimes being so loyal to one team causes us to be blinded to reality. I seriously doubt that the TSSAA, whatever you think of them, is out to get your school. The senario that you described took place at every game that I watched at the state tournament. I saw almost every game in the bracket opposite yours. Believe it or not, everything worked out nicely for your team. There was not a conspiracy against your team or any other.

By the way, see today's Tennessean newspaper for the quote by your head coach after your championship: "My way works and it finally got me a championship." I'm sure some would say that his way is driving the best talent in West TN to school everyday. I dare say there are lots of coaches around who could have coached the talent he had to a championship. He made it sound like without him, it never would have happened. Hey coach, it's not about you, it's about your players.

He has always came across to me like that. He is very arrogant.

I could care less about adamsville. They won't finish at 500. they never do and they wont start next year. We are gonna win the district now that USJ is gone and we will make a run next year. We got alot coming back. Fowler and Mcdonald will DOMINATE.

My primary point was not to sound like I was crying. I am glad to hear that all teams were apparently given the same instructions. We would have won even if USJ was targeted and I'm still not convinced that the rule wasn't instated because of the spirited way that our team has played all year. I would guess that some of the teams we defeated cried to the officials that our approach to the game intimidated their players and thus the rule was created (USJ is the only teams that I saw all year that left the dugout to congratulate every player for a positive play).

The real discussion here is should team spirit and enthusiasm be ruled out of the game of baseball. I have a real hard time with this rule

I seen the officials warn USJ (first game with Harriman) when players came out and gave a kid a high five at the plate, but it wasn't a home run. The ball was still in play.

The umpires also warned Harriman for greeting a guy that hit a home run before he reached home against Trousdale County.
