Nashville Maplewood has one of the best groups of freshmen I've seen. At least 30 were at practice with the varsity all summer except during the dead period. If they stay together and hit the books, they should have at least 5 - 6 division 1 players as well as several small school signees by senior year

Rhea Co has a good team ,they played in a jamboree last night and beat White Co.

21-0 and McMinn Co. 7-6 Last week they beat Sevier Co. in a scrim. Great offense with a QB that can throw deep and WR that can catch, Two running backs one quick and good moves the other big with power, runs over people. Very good defense. Very good size in both lines. Read the Dayton Hearld for information on the players this week also features the Varisty. thumb

Didnt they drop one game later in the season to Wilson Central? Last year I was at the Riverdale vs. Smyrna freshman game, it was Smyrnas 3rd game of the season and Riverdales 1st. Riverdale scored their first offensive play of the game on a DEEP ball, and never scored again but held Smyrna to 6 points (a touchdown with a missed PAT) until the last minute of the game, where some kid struck out and there was MANY Riverdale players right there to make the tackle, but got nervous and missed, and I think the runner went untouched to the endzone. Riverdale could not produce a scoring drive with the little time they had left, final score Smyrna 13, Riverdale 7.

That was a turning point for Riverdale all 7 of their next games, including the Lions Bowl Championship. I would almost guarantee that Riverdale could have won later in the season, I'd put money on it, since the game came right down to the wire and Smyrna had already had 2 games under their belt and it was Riverdales 1st. Regardless of the outcome, it was a VERY entertaining game.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
