LaVergne has several sophomores that will play a big role in this and upcoming seasons including Outside hitters Sarah Thacker and Kellye Piercey, and Setter Anna Garrison have already made their mark on the varsity team, and Outside hitters Sunnie Jackson and Emily Boyd are earning playing time with the varsity by solid play on the JV.

Thacker had 22 kills and Garrison had 39 assists on Monday vs. Ezell-Harding.

Shelby Smith is a young soph who is starting for Siegel @ MB. Not sure how tall she is bu over 6'0 or right at it. She is making a hugh difference for Siegel this year.

Siegel has a great class of Soph with 2 other girls having the potential to play up and a handful of other JV players that will make a name for themselves later.

Sally Reese and Morgan Faulkner. They both come off the bench if need be, the siegel JV team is looking really good. After all they are the defending District 7AAA tournament champs!

Siegel will be losing 6 seniors this year but they have a some really good Juniors and Soph that will make a easier transitsion.

Grundy Co. has a sophmore that starts that has and definately will have an impact...i think she's lookin good for a future scholarship sometime in the future. She is Kayla Childers(i think) but i am sure she is number 7...great room for improvement and certainly showin great promise with her hard hits and potential for being one of the best athletes

Kayla Childers of Grundy County is a PLAYER, no doubt about it. It's so hard to say which she is best at....hitting or playing defense. She swings HARD, knows when to push, and reads the defense better than any player that I've ever coached. She plays great on backline as well. Her serves are incredible, with lots of spin, and did i say HARD???? :( She continues to grow all around as a player, and I can't wait to see her as a senior!

Please be so kind as to show your star player off at a mid-state tournament next season. I'm certain many of us would like to see her play in person, as well as see how she stacks up against others in the area/others her age.

I know they're not sophomores yet (next year!), but Independence has a set of twins who are going to be a serious force to be reckoned with. The Perilli twins- Tess and Grace- are already very good, but will continue to get better with more time and experience. I dare say they will lead Independence out of district before their senior year.

What are you counting as a kill and an assist?

Maybe I am mistaken, (which I am quite often) but the criteria for a kill is a ball that ends a rally I thought. An assist is only an assist if it comes before a kill. Otherwise, they are counted as attempts.

Judge, help out please!

Just exactly that. Both had good games as did both the middles and the other outside. Those taking stats have been trained to do so. A kill is a ball attacked (whether a jump/swing, or a down ball), tipped, pushed etc to end a rally. We do not count Free balls as kills.

  • 3 weeks later...

i have to say siegel has the best sophomores.

shelby smith, 6'0, AWESOME blocker, and hitter.

morgan faulker, has come in and taken casie luna's position, while casie luna takes the position of carrie parrott (due to a hurt ankle) has adjusted very well, and has amazed some people, can handle the ball very well.

sally reese, has some amazing swings. definate plus for the stars.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
