I know this is an old post, but I just saw it,

so in case you're still interested, the other guys

in that weight were Bo Watson / Baylor who won the

state that year, Brad Ingle from Red Bank. You're

right, it was one of the toughest weight classes I'v

ever seen in a single year. (and Ron is my brother,

so thank you for your comments.)

Redraider:

You stole my thunder. Chris has to be one of the best wrestlers to never win state. He currently wrestles for UTC and he's a dude.

His little brother Mat, just won DI state at 125 in convincing fashion.

Chris coached my kid for 2 years at Lutheran School in Chattanooga. Chris meant so much to the kids at Lutheran and they all still love him.

He instructs a weight training program from April to October to ANY kid, wrestler or not, who wants to participate - school, division, sport - it doesn't matter. Just bring a good attitude. You'll need it because this progam is not for the meek.

I once asked Chris if he thought he was going to become a wrestling coach. "No" he said. "I KNOW I'm going to become a wrestling coach!"

What a fine young man!

I think that alot of those guys were awesome. I still can't believe Vance never won it. Or Chad Burnett, I think he would have beat Eric Jordan in 1997 if he could have got to the finals. I wrestled the guy that beat him (Joey Goatee) and then I had to wresle Chad for fourth place and Chad seemed like and animal compared to Goatee. And Josh Keller should've. He was tough. I always thought Elzen and Casey Cothron should have brought a championship home. I dont know if you guys remember Benji Stone from Bradley, but he was one of the toughest 160's I have seen. What about a heavyweight Brandon Forrester from Bradley? He deserved it. I know I am naming bradley guys but when you wrestle these guys day in and out you see how good they really are...some guys just look to far when they get in the tournament, and then somebody sneaks up on them that should have never beaten them. Oh yeah, Chris Bird was tough.
