Teams to watch in next 3 years

I doubt it. Don't read too much into the early season wins over 2A schools Lewis County and Waverly. The Lewis County win came as a result of poor conditioning (extremely hot...but it was hot on both sidelines, so Hickman County was in better shape), overconfidence on Lewis County's side (Why wouldn't they be? Lewis County had beaten Hickman County about 20 years in a row and Hickman County didn't really look stellar in their scrimmages, so when Hickman County came out swinging, LC got rocked back on their heels) and an ill-advised substitution in a critical position that allowed the 60 yard, go-ahead td run by #2 (one of those "you were out of position and gave up 4 yards on the previous play, so I'm going to pull you out and show you up in front of everyone so that wont happen again." things that coaches love to do to under-achieving players.

The Waverly win was very tight. Waverly is young and not a defensive juggernaut, but Hickman County still only managed to score 15 points. Plus, it was Waverly's first game of the year and Hickman already had the LC game under it's belt.

Unless they are going to allow all of the athletes to attend Hickman County and make everyone else go to the new school, they will probably run at the back of the pack in whichever region they'll be placed.

I strongly disagree with you on this one. I've talked to Coach Swenson and he feels very confident that when they drop to 2A they will be more than competitive. Having heard the shape the program was in i'd say they are off to a good start having already beaten two 2A teams and beating stratford and shelbyville in their region. More than one coach has made the comment of what a trunaround they've had down there. He'll get kids out and will push the mess out of them in the weight room. My prediction is that if they get put in Lewis co. region in 07 they will consistently challenge for the top spot every year. It'll take him one more year to get everything in sync then the payoff will come. I'm guessing he'll have just as many if not more athletes than lewis co. every year and once their kids get glued into the system they'll win. Right now everybody that loses to them tries to make excuses because no one wants to be the team that loses to Hickman Co. and I find that very funny. You'd best get use to it i'd say.

Well, Lewis County Jr. High consistantly beats both Hickman County Jr. Highs year in and year out. And, if I'm not mistaken, LCHS' freshman team beat HCHS freshmen twice this year...not to mention a HCHS JV loss to LCHS' JV (before so many players had to move into varsity roles, thus dissolving the JV season). You're using the theory of "Addition by Subtraction", which doesn't fly in this scenario. Granted, if HCHS was going down to 2A as a result of natural enrollment drop, re-calculation of the classifications, or a combination of both, you might have a valid point. But, that's not the case. The student body will be essentially split in half and as I said before, unless HCHS is going to keep all the athletes and the new school gets none, expect the status quo to be maintained for some time to come.

Your assumption that it really matters what thejv and freshman teams do has no validation here either. I remember years when our junior high destroyed milan only to lose in high school several times. Maybe Lewis co. has a better freshman program and junior high program than Hickman co. currently has. That can change. When the division of the school takes place Hickman Co. will have more kids in school than lewis co. I bet, thus more athletes to choose from. It doesn't matter how they drop in my opinion. They'll need half the athletes to be competitive in a 2A region, especially 6-2A :D

I tell you one thing I will put money on it with ne one...Smyrna wins STATE in 2 years...they will have many weapons...And I dont think Defense will be a problem..Smyrna has a couple players right now that are sophmore's that are transfers that could start this year...to name a couple Donovan Craig,Johna Hendricks,...So I see Smyrna going a long ways from here on out...they will also have a very good chance next year b/c what people fail to realize is that Smyrna is a very young team...there two rb's are juniors,qb is a soph, two star WR that will be returning,to defnsive ends,3 LB'sand many more...take my word...and La Vergne will be real good or they should be u never kno what they are going to do..I mean after this past week against Blackman..I guess u couyld say anything can happened

No, i've seen Lewis Co. for years now and know that any team in that area has to have similar type athletes. Lewis Co. has just been better organized from the top down. That region will be slow versus slower and with similar athletes at every school then it boils down to coaching. Hickman Co. has already shown an edge in that dept. and there is no arguing that. :thumb:

maybe its just me but has anyone noticed that Lebanons Freshmen team is undefeated??? They beat Riverdales freshmen 40-21. They have 5 freshmen starting varsity. A quarterback and runningback team that is unstoppable, recievers who jump 4 feet in the air to make a catch, and linemen who make anyone hurt.

I look for these guys to be one of the best teams Lebanon has ever had and finally beat Riverdale again by the time they are all juniors.

Freshmen tomorrow against MBA in a bowl game, 730 at LHS (who will have the best freshmen program in the state???)

Varsity Friday against Smyrna, 730 at LHS
