Does anyone know if Elizabethon has played any teams in the Knoxville area, if so, how did they do? What part of the state is Elizabethon located and who do they play during the regular season?

Elizabethton is in upper East Tennessee near Johnson City. Unicoi County and South Greene are in their district. They play regular non-conference games against AAA teams like Greeneville, Science Hill, Dobyns Bennett, and Tennesseee High. The closest teams they played to the Knoxville area last year were Pigeon Forge, who they defeated in the regional final, and Oliver Springs who they defeated in the substate.

The lady jackets beat Hancock County 46-39. It wasnt a very good performance by the jackets. On defense, they looked ok, however, offensively, Gentry and Smith missed numerous easy shots right underneath the basket. Those two must relax and convert the easy ones. The lady jackets outside shooting continues to be non-existant. With no outside shooting threat, teams will sag their defense into the paint making it extremely hard for the low post to score. Against a good team (Elizabethon on Saturday), they better take more shots from outside and convert them, Gentry and Smith better learn to make the easy baskets and the entire team needs to improve and improve fast at the free throw line.

Elizabethton 50

Kingston 19

The cyclones again rode a stout defense to a big win. They held Kingston to no points in the third quarter, and five in the second half. Very balanced attack on offense for the cyclones with only one player in double figures (Bush). Kingston played hard and pressed the whole game but instead of wearing the cyclones down, it was the lady yellow jackets who ran out of gas. It was only a seven point game at the half. Kingston has a young team and will improve as the season goes along.

Elizabethton is good, but not as good as what I had heard. They missed a ton of easy shots, especially in the first half. Where they killed Kingston, other than their defense, was with all the put backs. They would get three or four offense rebounds- if you give someone that many shots they are bound to hit one. They may have just had an off night, but if they had hit those layup in the 1st half it would have never been close. Kingston girls need to find someone who can shoot the ball. Any coach with any sense will collapse their defense on Gentry, Smith, and Martin until someone steps up and knocks a few shots down.

Elizabethton is a strong team with talented athletes. They move the ball extremely well and their players can shoot the ball, however, I hope everyone realizes they didnt beat a state champion contender. As most people know, Kingston is very young. Their starting lineup was 1 Freshman (Tayler Smith), 2 Sophmores (Brooke Gentry and Katie Hardin) and 2 Seniors (Kayla Parks and Laura Fielden). Fielden plays limited time due to the severe knee injury she suffered. During the game, 2 other true Freshman played significant time, Jacklyn and Jennifer Givens. I dont know the girls name but she was #53, While Smith was in the game, she held her scoreless. Dont get me wrong, I think she's a good ball player, I had just heard a lot about her being 6'3 and very good. I think if all the hype was true, she should have dominated a 5'10 Freshman. I wish Elizabethton all the luck for a great season, but they should know that they beat, for the most part, a team of Sophmores and Freshman.

Kind of early in the season to pass judgement on either team. It takes a few games for players to learn their rolls and such. Both teams are young and Kingston is very young. Both squads should have a bright future for the next few years. Good luck.........

GO CYCLONES!!!!!!

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
