Region 6-5A

Recommended Posts

Don't put much, if any, stock in scrimmages as an indicator. All they indicate are areas on your team that need to be addressed, or which areas look to be okay.

As far as Indy making the playoffs (based on what you did in scrimmages?), be advised that it is a big leap, especially from a program that has won one region game in it's varsity experience.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but this is the reality:

To make the playoffs, Indy will have to beat all of the teams that didn't make the playoffs, plus beat at least one who did.

Those teams who made the playoffs and the score plus differential this past season:

#4 Dickson County; 35-7 (28 point differential)

#3 Franklin: 34-17 (17 point differential)

#2 Brentwood: 49-13 (36 point differential)

#1 Ravenwood: 44-7 (37 point differential)

Last year they beat one team (Columbia), lost by 5 to another (Northeast), and lost by 24 to the other team that didn't make the playoffs (Centennial).

Thems, my friend, are the facts.

I'm sure they(Ravenwood) hope that you overlook them this year and think they "don't look like much". I would not underestimate any of the teams in any region based on scrimmages, especially spring! I thought Indy looked to have some real talent last year and I would assume that everyone in the region respects their potential in '06. If you take anyone lightly in this region you're making a big mistake.

I would agree with some of the comments about spring success as an indicator for the fall, spring scrimmages as well.

I also have to say that all the prognostications based on previous year's success or failure is a bit over-rated as well...Fromthetop seems to base all his "smarts' on previous seasons. Yes..Fromthetop has one set of facts straight....the 2005 season was what it was..and that is all you have for facts. Those facts mean about as much as spring success in my book.

Region 6-5A is a tough region to call this year in my book as well:

Here are the facts:

Franklin, Brentwood, Ravenwood and Dickson Co. are the perennial playoff teams from the region. Until someone proves they belong here in the group, they are the teams to beat.

Independence, Columbia and Clarksville NE are the bottom-dwellers until they prove otherwise.

Centennial...is the "Average Joe" of the region...with no particular place to go.

Key losses in personnel, coaching changes for some and poor or successful spring camps just might shake the region up this year. New QB's seems to be a huge issue for some of these teams. Only time will tell if the newbie QB's can handle the Friday Night Lights of region 5-A.

If I had to take a shot of picking the 2006 playoff teams...I would lean to the following scenario:

1. Franklin - I believe will still have enough talent to control the region.

2. Brenwtood - Could be #1...will they have enough to take Franklin? Very well coached!

3. Ravenwood - ONLY because they won it ALL last year...but that is the only reason. Key losses will catch up with them this year. I would not be surprised if they were #4 or not in at all.

4. Dickson Co - ONLY because other teams in region have to prove themselves worthy. NOT because I believe they will win their way here this year. I can see Independence as the next best team to make a run for this spot in 2006. Keep in mind...Ravenwood made their first appearance in the playoffs with their first ever senior class..IHS is following suit.

Centennial will under-achieve once again...that is a given.

Columbia seems to put athletes on field..just can't use them or CONTROL them. Also..may be out of their league in 5A ball.

Clarksville NE is way out of their league! Should be begging TSSAA to move them immediately.

The FACTS will come...until then, we all tend to be a little moronic, but makes the off-season more interesting, huh?

Hit---I agree with your comments but keep in mind that Franklin and Brentwood had some key losses as well, especially at QB (as you mentioned)but all are also losing some very good LB's. Ravenwood returns the majority of their o-line from last years team and the 5 guys up front average about 6'3" 270lbs. That's a big, experienced line to work behind. The new starter at RB is very talented (his dad played RB in the NFL and won a Ring) so I would certainly keep Ravenwood in the playoff hunt in '06. It will be a very interesting fall...

    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
