Maryville or Riverdale

I heard Mairvul wanted to play Daniel Boone but Mingo didn't want any part of it.

I doubt that Mairvul (sic) and Daniel Boone would have quite the draw that Maryville and Oak Ridge would have. Besides there is always the chance that these teams could meet in the play-offs. I know Maryville plays a couple of other 5 A teams, but neither one is near the team that Oak Ridge is. Heritage has won 8 games the past 5 years and Blount is barely a .500 team. I understand why Oak Ridge does'nt want to drop down to play a 4A team since they would gain nothing because they are supposed to be better than any 4A team, but I cannot understand why Maryville does not want this game. We all know the players would love to go at each other and there are'nt too many fans who would not like to see it, so the question is why don't they play? BTW who is Mingo?

Mairvul and MoWest was quite the draw and they played each other in the playoffs. If you want to see Mairvul and Oak Ridge come to Oak Ridge the first Friday in August and you can see it. It is quite a draw, as 2 or 3 thousand fans show up.

Mingo is Dannal Boone's trusty native American sidekick.

Any play-off game is going to have a large crowd, especially the state semi-final. You know a scrimmage is not the same as a game. Native American is out now. The PC name is American Indian, at least for a few years before that changes.

But remeber it is just a scrimage.

If Maryville wins "it was just a scrimage and we didnt play any of are starters"

But if Maryville loses "wow we totally dominated you guys, there is no way maryville could contend with a 5A team."

Mairvul played MoWest in the regular season 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. It drew a great crowd. A couple of times it was #1 and #2 in 4A going head to head.

Dannell always called Mingo "injun" so I guess that would be o.k.

Who, other than Oak Ridge, would you consider "power house" programs in that 5-A region? I agree, if you take the top two programs out of any region you eliminate the power house programs. Oak Ridge can play with any program in any classification and so can Maryville. Oak Ridge vs Maryville would be a great match-up and a huge draw. Kick-off Classic played at Neyland Stadium sounds good!

well lets see about some porew houses their is Brentwood Academy,Germantowm,Dobbyns Bennet,Riverdale to go along with many others thats just a few to name

Without any doubt I agree with you that all the teams you list are traditionally "power house" programs but I was not asking who the 5-a power house programs were. I asked who other than Oak Ridge in their 5-a REGION was a power house. Definetly DB if they are in that REGION! :justwrestle:

Which team is better? Which program has had the most success over the past 10-15 years? Is there any chance these 2 teams will ever play? And yes I know one is 4A and one is 5A. Which program has had the best recruiting this past off season?

They both are the powerhouses in there class. But i would have to take rhs because 5a is so much tougher with so many great teams and anyone can win this year was a great example. Yes Maryvile has more championships but idk how many they would have if they were in 5a. Good chance maybe none and if rhs was in 4a they would have more but they are both great programs.

    • Harriman was better than what I anticipated. They had good skill guys and a QB that’s gonna make a lot of teams look silly. They had some silly pre snap penalties but it’s just spring and I guess that’s expected.    Oneida looks the part. They are big upfront and got a stable of backs that’s gonna carry them this year. They have a few playmakers at receiver also. They have a new receiver that has only played basketball till this year and he is very athletic. The question is can we find a QB to consistently get them the ball. They played 2-3 kids there and none looked great but they didn’t look awful either. The  defense is gonna be tough again but it’s very early and a lot can change between now and the fall.     It was good just to get out and watch some ball. I don’t know if Oneida has the team to win the region this year but just what I saw tonight I think they may be in the conversation come November.
