New England QB Doug Flutie announced his retirement on Monday

:thumb: I loved watching Flutie play, he wanted to be out there for all the right reasons.

I consider him the best all round football player that ever lived. I know that will bring a lot of flack but this guy never quit and succeeded when everyone else thought he was incapable. He had the magic to take a team to another level when other QB's fell flat. Many times I have seen him be the backup and a team going nowhere with the starter only to come in and rally the troops to a fantastic comeback. Yes, he was too short to play QB.......by logical standards but this guy would never fall victim to that kind of thinking. He was so athletic that he could just roll out and create havoc with the D line and linebackers while simultaneously creating passing lanes. His cannon of an arm just was abnormal. You couldn't think a small guy like him could throw the ball as far and hard as he could. Every time he hit the field, you had the feeling something special was about to happen. He was the "ROCKY" of football.

I'll miss him and his inspiration.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
