thanks for that info... meyers was a great back but the defense on that team was pretty good, they shut us out at our place and i can remember talking with several of my friends after the game and the running back (now coach) said that he didn't think he had ever been hit that hard or by that many people. Would you say that the 83 team was the best that ever played there? What was your connection with them, just wondering, like i have said before I love to talk about the good old days

sorry to be biased but the best team Bledsoe ever had was the 83-84 Warriors. Randy Sharp, John Swafford, Gary Angel, Harrison Twins, Wayne Agee, Kevin Whitson, Howard Colvard, John Boynton, Sandy Bice, Avery Neely. This was the first year Bledsoe had been moved to 2A. Had they stayed in 1A, they may have won the state championship.

Sorry to be so late in the conversation, but that was a great team. Probably more true athletes than any 2 teams in school history. They had some real hitters too. The 86-87 team that lost to Central would have to be a close 2nd. Bart Myers on offense and Jim Swafford on defense along with one of the best OL in school history in Mark Swafford, that team was tough. They would knock your head off but I don't think they had the athletes to compete with the 83 ball club.

Hey, Warriot 2024 who are you trying to kid. Those clubs from the 90's would not have stayed in the first quarter with the Real Warrior ball teams of John Swafford's from the 80's.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
