  1. 1. Region 4AA Tournament

Giles County will have their largest senior class in a long time. Yea for most of the seniors this is the fourth coach in four years and the way most see it, that could be a setback to giles county. But GC has a lot of heart and plenty of faith in the new coach, so believe me when i say come Nov. GC will still be on the field.

RIGHT NOW:

1.) Marshall Co.: 2-2 overall (2-0)

2.) Giles Co.: 3-0 overall (1-0)

3.) Lipscomb: 3-1 overall (1-0)

4.) Spring Hill: 2-2 overall (1-1)

5.) Cheatham Co.: 1-2 overall (0-1)

5.) Montgomery Central: 1-2 overall (0-1)

7.) Page: 1-3 overall (0-1)

8.) Creek Wood: 0-3 overall (0-1)

Creek Wood at Montgomery Central

Lipscomb at Cheatham Co.

Spring Hill at Giles Co.

Page at Marshall Co.

The game of the week in the region is going to be the Spring Hill-Giles contest. Giles has gotten off to a fast start and should get their star player, Edgmon, back after having a bye this past week. Spring Hill has caught the "winning disease" now winning two consecutive games including last week's win over 4A Lawrence Co.

Page and Marshall Co. are the biggest two "natural rivals" in this region because they've played so many "big games" in previous years. This year's game is obviously big for both teams. With a win Marshall Co. just about puts themselves in the postseason with three wins in the region. Their losses to Sycamore and Greenbrier were both non region contests. Page is 0-1 in the region and can't afford a loss if they want to have a shot at hosting a home playoff game.

Lipscomb and Cheatham Co. were the only two teams in the region to play one another twice last year, the 13-3 playoff battle was a classic, which says somethng well for both programs. Lipscomb is off to a fast start after dropping their season opener to rival Goodpasture. The Cubs come in having lost two straight games, the last being to county rival Sycamore, but the playoffs are still in sight for this bunch.

Creek Wood at Montgomery Central might possibly be the first "playoff elimination" game in my eyes. Not so for the Red Hawks because they lost to a Lewisburg bunch that could still very well win the region but Central has a loss already against Spring Hill and if they start out 0-2 in the region with those two losses coming against "bubble" teams in the playoff race then making the playoffs pretty much becomes an impossible task for the Cunningham bunch.

How does everyone pick this week's region games (the ones that I've highlighted)?????

Is Cavalla O'Neil going to play this week? I heard he went down early with a shoulder injury last week. In my opinion, O'neil is the best player in the region. It would be a huge loss for the tigers if he didn't get to play.

It was a huge loss not to have him Friday night. I think he will be able to play this coming Friday even if it is limited. As for the picks, I think montague1 got them all right. I have liked Spring Hill since we played them in week 0. They are going to make some noise this year!

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
