You didn't get a ring versus Maryville. I checked and Maryville is 2-0 versus BA. I remember 1976 very well as Carlton was on the local telly talking about Maryville being a "fair" team with good players. BA had 4 or 5 D-1 recruits and were primed to win a championship. Maryville promptly went out and stomped a mudhole into BA.

Hey Mr. Math, If I played Alcoa in '88', your right I was'nt around in '76'. Maryville has a great program and I will not deny you that, but in '76' BA had only been a school for 6 yrs. Yes, BA won A state in '74', but they were still a realitively new school. Yes, Maryville had early success vs. BA. Wish I could have played against them in my day. Would not have been a contest. As for the current, I'll take BA over Maryville 8 out of 10.:D

LOL....another fool with very little knowledge. Obviously you haven't been keeping up so I will give you a pass on this one.

As for the statement "if you were around it would have been different"......unless you were good for 28 points then the results would have been the same...

Fool? I have probably forgot more football than you know, I do not need a pass. Yes, in 88 we were better than 28pts. The best team BA has ever had and proud to say that, earned it. 7th in usa and 4 on espn. We did not know what losing was and even when we played bad (very, very rare), we found a way. Starters played 50% of most games and Maryville would have been the same

Yes, In the only head to head meetings Maryville pounded BA.

Further seeing how BA is a private school or Academy or college-preparatory school, only those students demonstrating intellectual potential for college will be accepted.

Therefore State Championships won between public schools and private schools is very different. Teams made up of the select group of "intellectual potential" types vs public schools can not be compaired in my opinion. Also BA Slects players from many states and has had a very costly law suit vs. the TSSAA concerning player selection down elementary grade levels.

BA's state Championships can not be compaired to any public schools SC's in my opinion. And beating Alcoa is no great accomplishment.

Maryville beat BA 21-14 in 1978. I guess if you call that a "pounding" that is a matter of opinion. Maryville was eliminated long before rematches in 80, 81 and 82 were possible. Knox Rule, Roane Co. and Cleveland lost to BA in the finals those years.

The "selects from many states" is an exageration.

I am sure that the "costly lawsuit" that you speak of was intended toward the TSSAA, since they lost and have to pay BA.

Your living in the past, its been 10 years since BA won a championship (1996), in that same 10 year span, Maryville has won 6 state championships, (1998,2000,2001,2002,2004,2005). Maryville has dominated high school football in the last ten years more than any other school in Tennessee, name me one school that can match their record, you can't, thus BA would be just another victim for the rebel machine.

Six watered down state championships. :thumb:

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
