Let me follow that one...what sort of depth does MBA have? Traditionally, that's been something of an issue, given that the school has roughly 300 boys from which to build a team. How many players are there actually out there? Not that it's really indicative of anything, but the school's website posts a detailed schedule for all of its teams, and there is none listed for JV football.

I can help with this one. THe JV team just consists of Varsity players who don't play in the Varsity games. There's not a strict JV roster but it usually consists of the Varsity scout team players.

Depth shouldn't be a huge problem. Now, whether or not it is quality depth, I don't know yet. However, as RedTwin suggested, the guys taking Tompkins' and Howe's places have shown promise. As far as numbers go, I think there's roughly 80-90 guys on the varsity and that is excluiding freshmen, which have their own team. The MBA website, while very nice, doesn't always do a great job of posting up to date schedules or details on the teams.

I'm glad to see that they have good people to fill the gaps. I like to look in on the lower level teams at MBA, partly to see what's coming up, but more out of fondness: I played on the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade teams, at which time it became apparent that world (or at least District 11 AAA) had very little need for 120 lb. centers.

In my time there ('73-'79), JV football was an on again-off again thing. I'm glad to see that they still play 9th grade football. I think a lot of good players would get lost in the shuffle otherwise.

Who is going to take Howe's place at QB and what is the young man's background? Didn't the backup QB transfer to a Williamson County where he could get more playing time?

Austin Bennett will replace Howe at QB. He is a junior that played sparingly at DE last year. He did show some promise handling the team at the end of the Trinity game last week. Last year's backup, Zach Cordell, is now the starter at Independence. He has thrown for nearly 500 yards in two games.

everyone is being ridiculous Mus has proven themselves against Melrose and MBA has lost many starters I think Mus will win greatly

Let me guess you are another MUS freshman that knows absolutely nothing? MUS did not prove much against Melrose in my honest opinion. Yes, Melrose had talent but lacked any semblence of discipline. Melrose had that game won which does not bode well for MUS this season. As for MUS winning greatly haha I think not if anything it will be very close down to the wire. Even with key players gone MBA will not be a pushover. Do a little research and try to analyze things correctly before making asinine one sentence statements. GO OWLS!!!

No joke the kid has thrown for nearly 500 yards in two game? How was he not the starter at MBA & why did he leave?

Actually 434 yards. So, I was a little off. He was a sophmore last year and Rutledge felt that Howe was better, I guess. His reasons for leaving are not clear.

    • I don't know what's going on in the town of McMinnville, but I've read this and it's disturbing.  I'm a "player" person, and I want what's best for the player. If a player gets cut off the team because she said the "F word" then good grief. I mean, come on guys. I wish there was a way for the player to transfer to a different program and just play ball. There are a lot of athletes that are stuck because they're in crappy situations regarding their team/coach. This is player just happens to be one them.
    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
