I agree with you, that TC is much worse than usual right now, but were you at the TC and the DC game? WT did not have the enthusiasim (spelling?) tonight that they had at TC. They looked flat, even from the first snap. I hope they bring their A game next Friday, or it will be a long night in WT against FCS. Anyway, hats off to DC you played a great game.

WT better bring it friday night the commanders are loaded and it seems like they are hungry. Should be a good game best of luck to both teams wish i could be there. Go region 4 all the way to the boro. A little word to the wise tigers don't come out flat friday because if FCS jumps on you quick i don't think you'll have enough guns to get back in it. Keep it close early and it will be a battle to the end.

Watertown is not even in the same stratosphere as FCS from a talent standpoint. If FCS doesn't win by 30 then they've played bad. Except from the QB position, FCS is as talented as TC was last year.

'

You make it sound as if QB for FCS is bad. It seems to look like he is doing a good job of commanding the offense this year.

Well of course WT doesnt have any where near the talent that FCS has. WT is not a private school, they cannot recruit (spelling?) and they don't have near the athletic budget that FCS has. All that aside, I think it is awsome that the tigers are 3-0, and I am just going to hope for the best next week. Oh, I agree that WT may have somewhat overlooked DC in anticipation of FC. If you read my previous posts, I kept saying that they shouldn't do that. Anyway, I love high school football. Anything can happen on any given Friday night.

It could have been that Watertown was overlooking Dekalb and thinking about FCS and the first possible region championship shot they have had in a while. Not smart to overlook teams though...

I dont think Watertown has a chance against Friendship. I know that everybody said that about the Trousdale game but nobody knew that Trousdale would be this bad. This is the worst start I can remember them ever having. Having said that we all know that Friendship is for real this year. I think that Gordonsville is the 2nd best team in the region this year. Who knows Trousdale may get it together and surprise somebody at the end of the season somewhat like Smith County done last year.

T Belle,

Obviously you've spent too much time drinking the water in h2o town :thumb: . No one will argue that Watertown is NOT a private school. However, I'll argue another point you made!

FC does not recruit. If they did they would have to play in Div II like Davidson Academy (whom FC already beat), BGA (whom FC beat in a scrimmage), BA, MBA, etc. It always amazes me how teams getting beat or getting ready to get beat by FC or other privates can't just give these schools and their coaches and players credit for their hard work and talent. If FC were recruiting (and they may be forced to if the TSSAA and their BOC votes to split privates and publics) their coaches, boosters, administrators, alumni, and players would be recruiting and helping to pay tuition for every good athlete in h2otown, Gordonsville, Carthage, Hartsville, Dekalb, MJ, Gallatin, and Lebanon. The reason FC gets the transfers from these other programs is that the kids see opportunities at FC that they can't get at their other schools. Usually the "recruiting" you refer to is from student to student or parent to parent when talking about opportunities that FC and other privates offer that kids from other schools aren't getting.

Why was it when WHS, GHS, TCHS, and others in the old District 6A were dominating Friendship or the old Castle Heights no one in those communities complained about FC or accused them of recruiting? Much like you all view Mt. Juliet Christian now, it was because all of you guys liked that "easy win" on the schedule and felt their athletes weren't as good as your teams'.

Well guess what ? It won't be easy any more those days are long gone!!! FC is looking forward to next Friday night and a chance to use all that big "athletic budget" and their "hard-worked and well trained" athletes to continue its recent dominance over the tigers.

Obviously your team has improved from last year. Looks like you even "recruited" yourselves a new QB from WC. Best of luck in your preparations and congrats again on your 3-0 start and top 10 AP ranking. We'll see you Friday night!

Now I'm curious............. What are these 'opportunities' that you speak of?

I stand corrected then, I thought that ALL private schools could recruit.(sorry) I wasn't trying to insult the FC players. I agree that they have probably the top single A team in the state right now. As for the "easy win" as you call it, over MJCS, I feel the same way about them. Just my opinion, and I'm sure I'll take lots of crap for it, but I think private schools should be in the same region as other private schools, and I thought this way before you guys were dominating anyone. And that was a long time ago, and there was no website to post it on. Anyway, I'd like to know how we recruited a boy who has lived in WT his whole life and played for WT from jr high on except last year?????

I can answer some of this as an FCS alum and a parent of children that will attend FCS:

  • Higher college entrance test scores on average
  • Bible study classes as part of every day
  • "Chapel" devotional once a week
  • Small classroom sizes
  • College credit (college freshman level) courses taught by Cumberland University professors on site
  • Good athletic programs
  • Dedicated arts center for drama classes

I could go on and on ... but this is an excellent start and I think satisfies your request for what 'opportunities' are available.

I never said the boys gave up nor did I say the boys lost the game. Absolutely not. Those young men played with all they had (all 15-18 that played). They were exhausted. Ask them, they'll tell you. There is no doubt what lost that game! It's like I said in an earlier post and like everyone was saying last night, you've got to work some fresh legs in and out and give those young men a chance to hydrate and recover. When the opposing team is running 6-8 men in and out the entire game and you may run 3-4 maybe?

We could go on and on about what needs to be done at DCHS but it boils down to one major thing. This ain't Jr. Pro.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
