GreenMan
Hillsboro H.S. in Nashville are the Burros..not a mascot you see very often. The best I've ever seen was on a large sign outside the stadium at Tarpon Springs, Florida..."Home of the Spongers" The community is on Gulf Coast just outside Tampa & there is a large "Sponge" diving industry there. I bet the teachers and coaches love those kids, they just absorb everything.
1AMAN
I know it's not "unique", but I have always wondered why Roane County High School and Coalfield use the nickname of Yellow Jacket. Roane County's, aka Kingston, colors are navy and orange(NO YELLOW) and Coalfield is orange and black(NO YELLOW). I'll top that...Greenfield Yellowjackets, colors orange black and white
eddie haskell
Lets try to be helpful in this thread by coming up with some original nicknames for schools that already exist. Maybe if the right people read these it might spur a name change. Examples: Maplewood Syrups Oliver Springs Chickens Bearden Ladies Greenbrier Patches Hillwood Burning Fireplaces Goodpasture Patties Harpeth Hall Ways Centennial Celebrations Any other ideas? hopalot
Can anyone tell me how Union City and Alcoa got their nicknames of "Tornadoes". Did an actual tornado come through those cities, causing destruction and despair, and they thought , "Hey! There's a good nickname!". I bet there are some great stories behind many school's mascots/names(like the hairy hunks mentioned earlier).
