I knew a high school in Minnesota named the Harrison Hairy Hunks. Now that was a unique nickname. Especially since it was an all girls school. The story goes that in 1922 when the school was young they used to be named the Harrison Heifers. But political correctness took over and the girls were having a vote to decide upon a new name. It was a lock that the name would be the Belles. But during voting it was found out that two of the star athletes were actually men. This angered their cross town rival so much that they made a $1000000 donation to Harrison with the stipulation that they be named the hairy hunks for the rest of time to make sure everyone knew what they had done. Since the school was in financial difficulty(as you could imagine with a name like the heifers) they had to accept the terms of the deal and therefore the Harrison Hairy Hunks were born.

 

That is awesome! Mmmmm.....Gallatin Green Wave comes to mind.....

Isn't Union City's mascot a Tornado? Thats pretty darn unique.

 

It's not often two "Tornado" teams hook up. Friday, the plural Alcoa Tornadoes will meet the singular McCallie Blue Tornado.

This is ironic. Dead in the middle of the Bible belt. With more churches than convient stores. So many teams named after the Devil. Red Devils rule right? Hey Im just busting yalls chops.

It's not often two "Tornado" teams hook up. Friday, the plural Alcoa Tornadoes will meet the singular McCallie Blue Tornado.

In 2000 the Union City Tornadoes lost to the Alcoa tornadoes 27-20 int he State Championship.

Science Hill HillToppers. The only other Hilltopper team ive heard of is Western Kentucky.

 

I can hear Chris Berman on McMinn Central. "McMinn Central Superchargers." He uses that phrase for San Diego.

 

The Siegel Stars. Never has rung a bell.

 

Before Daniel Boone was a high school in the early 70s. Everybody in tha area went to Boones Creek. They were known as the Boones Creek Bars.

I know it's not "unique", but I have always wondered why Roane County High School and Coalfield use the nickname of Yellow Jacket. Roane County's, aka Kingston, colors are navy and orange(NO YELLOW) and Coalfield is orange and black(NO YELLOW).

Hillsboro H.S. in Nashville are the Burros..not a mascot you see very often.

 

The best I've ever seen was on a large sign outside the stadium at Tarpon Springs, Florida..."Home of the Spongers"

 

The community is on Gulf Coast just outside Tampa & there is a large "Sponge" diving industry there.
