In response to what mcpoff was asking about Silverdale, here'e the story how I understand it:

Silverdale's first AD, Paul C. Hill, "supposedly" sent out a form of some possiable nicknames for the athletic teams. It was narrowed down to Knights, Flames and Seahawks and he said the vote came out that the people at the school picked Seahawks, but nobody ever remembers voting. Some say he just picked Seahawks because the nickname of the previous school he was at was the Seahawks, and he didnt want to have to buy new gear.

My cousin was telling me about a team in West Virginia that is nicknamed.....get this......THE FIGHTING POLKA DOTS :roflol: I dont remember the name of the high school but i know it was like 2 towns over from Hurricane, West Virginia or something like that. I'll ask them the next time i talk to them and find out the name of the high school. But I do know their school colors were pink and purple, now that should put the fear of God in their opponents to know that the Fighting Polka Dots are coming to town, lol :(

they are now known as the purple quarter pounders. Or PUDS

yea, and the Ooltewah Owls is real intimidating. you probably dont even know how the name Purple Pounders came to be. Central use to be the Purple Warriors back when they were down on McCallie Ave. A local newspaper nicknamed them the pounders cause the way they use to pound the ball up and down the field on everyone. Wait, that was when Ooltewah was still a cow pasture and not even thought about. Go hoot somewhere you scary OWL you!

I have heard of this, but I think the name of the town was Polka and the nickname was the Dots.
