now, take a look at how the private folks talk about the publics on here. you berate, degrade, and ridicule public schools. you call their kids, coaches, and supporters lazy, anticompetition, whiners, and any other denigrating epithet you can conjure up.

read BBQ's posts.

You won't find a post on here where I have berated, degraded or ridiculed a public school. I have never made a comment about their kids as being lazy, anticompetition, or whiners. I have never used a denigrating epithet about a player, a team, or a coach.

I do think that the drive to institute a multiplier and to split the private schools from the public schools was, and continues to be, anticompetition.

Your "middle schoolers should play in the NFL if they want competition" is simply not in line with any state athletic association, baseball (rookie, A, AA, AAA), college athletics, NFL, NASCAR, boxing, NBA, NHL, I could go on and on and on and on.

"Again, to all of you anticompetition people,"

bbseq...3:37pm today (10/31)

what was that, a keypunch error?

but i did delete my intemperate rant.

it might have been cathartic to let off steam by keying it in,

but serves no purpose to leave it there.

however, i didnt say you should play nfl teams, i said i didnt care if you did.

your attitude would not gain you a spot on my schedule.

I was...and am...against the multiplier. I am not anticompetition...as you put it. I am for public playing other publics in the playoffs. I am not for playing any privates in the playoffs...just as I am not for playing 4a and 5a publics in the playoffs either. I think two public and two private classes would be ideal. No...that would not make it any easier for my team to compete for a title. I am for playing whomever you want in the regular season...public...private...or out of state.

I think that would be a fair system....PROVIDED that regular season match-ups actually happen between publics and privates. After all this is TENNESSEE high school football and Tennessee schools should be playing each other....it should not be that both MBA and Riverdale, 30 miles apart, are both playing out of state games in the same year, while not just playing each other. This year, we had some unbelievable match-ups between d1 publics and d2 privates (MUS-Melrose, BA-Ravenwood, Alcoa-McCallie, McCallie-Riverdale)....why not play more of these games? Everyone wins with a quality game, and no one's post-season chances are hurt...gates are fantastic.

I will be interested to see what Riverdale does with its schedule in light of the epic McCallie game. Will they seek more games like this, or will they be content beating Smyrna and company 49-0 every regular season game?

Debate serves a purpose, but isn't the BA vs. TSSAA

lawsuit going to play a definitive role in this drama?

On one level, we can all debate for or against a certain

field of competition. One another level, shouldn't there

be some thought about how the final resolution to the

lawsuit impacts the field of competition?

My view could be overly dramatic, but I envision

something along the lines of "The Day After" a

nuclear explosion.

The countdown to the end of the lawsuit is still ticking, right?

I know what you are saying, and it was a great environment

and game (for McCallie). But they have played so many big

games that I believe it doesn't stand out in the manner you

suggest.

The big win over Smyrna was a culmination of an off-season

and season's work under a new coach and system. In my

opinion, that was a BIG game that will last in their memories

and help them win the state.

I bet the Riverdale kids will remember the McCallie game alot long than a 49-0 win over whoever even though they lost. When they are 30 years old, it will be a great memory.

I think big time coaches/programs want to play in big time games regardless of winning and losing.

You can tell a true persons/teams character by how they respond to adversity. I seems as if Riverdale went back to work after the McCallie loss and took their game to another level. Teams that will not schedule difficult opponents will never know how good or bad they reallly are.

Let's have four (4) classifications within the TSSAA for football and use the "MERIT SYSTEM" Why would people not want the "MERIT SYSTEM" unless they are scared of change or the unknown? Athletic Directors and coaches are supposed to be educated people (sometimes I debate this topic) and they should be able to make it work. The major problem is that everyone is acting as if they are in a gang and this is some type of turf war.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
