So you are saying that the #1 team in 5a with a 11-0 record that is in one of the hardest if not the hardest regions in 5a would go 6-4 with JP II schedule...... Who would they lose to? Knox Webb? St. Benedict? MBA?... Please... JP II is in dII-AA not II-AAA...... Big difference...

Golden Tate is a great player. I've watched some film of him on the internet. Good size and speed but he is not playing in the best classification.....

Ok since nobody else asked, what 5a team would you want to put him on to find out?

????? Guys I am not saying Golden Tate is a bad football player. He is one of best if not the best player in the state. I'm not argueing that.... I'm argueing how someone said he is playing in the toughest division which he is not. I'm argueing the statement that Ooltewah (12-0) would be 6-4 at best with their schedule. Golden Tate would stand out in 5a too just not as much in my opinion.

Great game by Golden on Friday. Had over 350 total yards and scored 5 TDs and that was probably the most heart of ANY football player I have ever seen during a game!!!

For all of the Golden haters out there, ACT score is in... I will not list his score, he can if he wishes to, however it is an excellent score and qualifies him for Notre Dame or Vanderbilt... Golden cleares the clearinghouse with flying colors.. Congratulations son, this definately shuts up the haters out there who wanted to see you faulter. Outstanding job

Ooltewah is having a good year but i would bet PJP2 would be 12-0 with Ooltewah's schedule. The toughest games Ootlewah played was Farragut and Cookville. Webb, PJP2, ECS, and maybe even harding Academy would have beaten thoes teams this year. I say this with confidence seeing all these teams play including farragut. Cookville, one of Ootlewah's closest games, lost to Franklin Co who PJP2 beat by 4 touchdowns. Farragut, the best team Ootlewah played this year is not better than Webb. Farragut lost to Powell who Webbs beaten the past 4 years. These are just a few examples that help prove that PJP plays a tough schedule. If Ottlewah played PJP2 schedule they could possibly loose to Father Ryan, Goodpasture, ECS, MBA, and Webb. Harding Academy is no easy win either. So saying that Ootlewah could be 6-4, 7-3 is not a bogus statement.

Bottom line Golden played againsts some of the best teams in the state regardless of school size

We're probably losing sight of the topic at hand here (Golden Tate), although I guess it (classification) is somewhat on topic since his competition has been called into question.

The confusion started when someone questioned the level of competition in "DII", and therein lies the problem: "DII" is a large division with three classifications. The original poster (BarnBurner) could have clarified by opining that "DII-AA" is not tougher than DI-5A, and not saying "DII" as a whole. And I would probably agree with that statement (I-5A tougher than II-AA), just as I would also contend that DII-AAA, with about a 70-75% winning percentage against I-5A and I-4A since the split (and a 19-4 record versus all of DI in 2006), is the data-supported best classification in Tennessee football since the split.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
