Coaches Humiliating Players

I think it is disgraceful for coaches to humiliate kids especially at games. I experienced the coach at Dickson County in a game with Waverly when the DC coach publicly verbally abused a player that did something he didn't like or was supposed to do. The humiliation continued for several minutes with the coach in his face. He sat him on the bench and every minute would turn and yell at him some more or look at him, like he shot his dog or something. I was embarrassed for the kid and this was not my home school. I am from Waverly.

This coach's action was classless and I think he should be reprimanded or even fired for his action. There is no room for things like this. Yell if you want, correct if you want, but don't humiliate. These are kids.

What do ya'll think?

i've seen this several times...not at GC but at other schools...how does a coach not feel embarased by this when he's got everyone in the gym looking down there at him? is that his chance to shine in the light?

He or she may think so, but I think it is a sign of a sort of power play. It is immature and classless.

This question will never be resolved because most coaches don't practice humiliation but parents want to protect their babies and can't tolerate any form of criticism. In true cases, the administration will respond. I don't like this public humiliation aspect, but Coaches like Rick Insell have made it fasionable. I am not saying he is abusive to his players, because 99.9% of them love him, but he was and is a very vocal and emotional Coach.

Were you around after the fact to see how it was handled after the game? probably not, so don't pass judgement until you know the whole story........if you don't like it, join the band........ :D

It doesn't matter how it was handled after the game. He humiliated a kid in front of everyone. He didn't just try to scold him for not doing something, he verbally abused him for what seemed to be 5 or so minutes then sat him on the bench and continued to hover over him with a scowl. That's not coaching.

I agree most parents don't want their kids to be criticized but if they are not doing their jobs they are taught to do that is what should be done. They can get their point across, even by yelling and screaming, I don't mind that even, but this coach was humiliating this kid and then wouldn't let it go. I'm not the only one who has commented about this who was at the game. I have heard a lot of people talkiing about it. Correct a player, yell if you want, but don't humiliate. There is NO room for it!

Wake up and smell the coffee.

The symbol on your post means you hold to a higher standard. I can't believe you would say that. I'm one.

Actually it is more important what happens after the fact......have seen the guy you are talking about (pass by the gold ball in the trophy case before every game).......my point is that alot of coaches do these things during the game but most of the good ones follow it up with some kind of sit down to explain what went wrong........sorry but its part of sports......
