District 9 Championship

Great game tonight!

MLK went out fast 7-1, then CPA settled down with the game even at half.

Both teams came out hot shooting in the 3rd quarter with Miller for CPA draining 3's to put CPA up 35-26 halfway through 3rd.

MLK turned up the heat with full court pressure and hit some big shots, outscoring CPA 23-8 the rest of the game.

CPA cut the lead to 3 with about 30 seconds left, but MLK made 4 FT's in a row and sealed the deal.

Great effort by both teams, but MLK outhustled and outquicked CPA in the 2nd half and deserved to win making the shots when they needed to.

Congratulations on a great season by both teams and a great effort tonight.

Good luck in the Region.

Pretty disappointing to see that big "Z" couldn't even put up double digits against one of the smallest teams in the district.

Congrats to MLK on yet another district championship, with Doc coaching it seems like they should just skip to region cuz they win every year. Hopefully this year they can find a way to not choke at region like last year. They have been winning recently so as long as Gerald keeps his cool they should have a shot at making it to sub-state and they are going to need to win region to have any shot at making it past sub-state because whoever gets the two seed out of region will get dominated by liberty

The main reason that Z didn't reach double-digits is because CPA completely got away from feeding him. In addition, he didn't work too hard on sealing and Smith from MLK is a very good post defender.

The game was very exciting and I couldn't wished for a better one to watch. I think everyone not for CPA (and probably even some of them) hates Anderson (#1). If I see him flop one more time, I may lose it.

Thank you!!!!!!! I am not an MLK fan, but had to root for them because showboat or not every guy on the floor knows how to play basketball! If you have to resort to tricks or being a thug or trying to win the academy award for flopping, you're not playing basketball.

I guess Gerald taking a cheap shot at the Anderson kid and knocking him to the floor when the refs were not looking and then later a cheap shot to the crotch on Anderson is great basketball from Mr. Everything Robinson. And I would also have to give Mr. Robinson the Tourament MVP for whining. He may be a great basketball player but he is about as classless as they come.

I am sure Anderson whines more than Robinson, anyways why would you whine when you beat teams single handedly??

Anderson plays GR exactly the way Coach Maddux tells him to. He gets in his face nonstop because that is how you have to play D against a great athlete. He did not mug him, take cheap shots or do anything illegal. He just hounded him the whole game because that is the best way to defend GR.

GR did take a couple of cheap shots but they weren't called - that is part of basketball. I don't think the refs were protecting him - they just didn't see it.

By the way, Anderson held GR (who averages 28) below 15 in two other games this year, I think. CPA beat MLK twice this year. So, obviously that is the proper strategy in playing MLK.

Last night DR was "lights out" and played through the tough defense, shot very well, and made free throws. MLK came down on offense, set up double screens to free up DR and when he gets a step past his defender, he is hard to stop.

Bottom line, CPA did what they thought they needed to do to win and so did MLK. Both plans were sound but MLK just made a few more shots and made free throws in the end.

Wow I didnt know that flopping would give someone the reason to hate. The definition Hate is an intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury. David Anderson is one of the best defenders in the district. He does what is asked of him and never retaliates to his opponents cheap shots toward him. You might want to choose your words a little more wisely before posting. Oh and the next time you see Anderson take a charge, you can lose it like the loser you are. Also one question for you, Dont you have anything else better to do than bash other players on coacht? What is your problem?!!?!

    • We could sure use some math teachers country wide. Ever go into a store or restaurant and the bill comes to $9.97 and you give them a ten dollar bill and 2 pennies because you wanted a nickle back and then the meltdown starts and the next thing two more people have to come and help figure it out and the place comes to a complete halt. I see this everyday and it's a sad representation of all these schools allowing these kids out the door to get shortchanged the rest of their life.
    • I like the Pirates chances. I’ll be there as soon as work allows.
    • Stars, I heard we were searching far and wide for some math teachers. Any chance their kids bench press or 40 times are getting checked? LOL I’ve heard good things from 825.
    • I think it was expected. “Bad” luck I guess to get a couple difference maker QBs in the same class. I thought the decision was made a little early myself, but they were struggling offensively last year.  I assume the running quarterback alco had last year would be a senior this fall, and the transfer would start the following two years in addition to getting a ton of playing time this year. Maybe he waits two yrs, but I doubt it. The kid is good. So is the one who stayed.
    • I'm from Cloudland and we've never played a sectional game.  We need to win tomorrow night to avoid that bus ride.  Us and north greene can play with you guys so I'm expecting good games whoever the matchup is.
