Magnet Schools and basketball

Just for the record, I believe that doctorate was awarded to him. I don't think he ever actually earned a degree. But back to the topic....

Just goes to show, there will never be a level playing field, period in high school athletics, You have urban schools, rual schools, magnet schools, schools fully funded by their communities and others that will not pass a sales tax or proberty tax to support their community school.

Just because the playing field will never be level, doesnt mean we should continue to try to level it. The first way right now is a full and total split of private and publics. PERIOD.

I don't think that magnet dominance is a trend. However, it seems as though this year there were several magnet programs represented. Larger school systems are starting to offer more magnet programs for students now. It seems to be a trend in education. Rutherford is now looking at a K-12 magnet program. Parents want more for their students. If academics and athletics are a good combination, I say go for it.

You will have to ask lazarus the definition of "trend." He is the expert about this type of stuff. I have gotten myself in trouble in the past talking about "cycles" and "trends." I agree with you 100% about the value of magnet schools. I am not against magnet schools. I'm just trying to point out the hypocrisy of singling out private schools for so-called "advantages" when other schools also have certain advantages.

DI is urban public schools

DII is rural public schools (after all, these two can't be expected to compete with each other since they have such different backgrounds)

DIII is for private schools: non aid giving

DIV is for private schools: Aid giving

DV is for magnet schools

 

That is all that must be done to level the playing field... oh wait i forgot one.
