Does anybody know when interviews may take place? Who has applied?

Interviews will begin Monday.

5 names for sure will get an interview-

1) Brad Bennett

2) Bo Cagle

3) Josh Goodin

4) Scott Smith

5) Mike Zeller

Are there any information on Mike Zellar ? Whats his experience in coaching and what does he teach in the class room.

Scotty Smith would make a great head coach at McMinn County. He knows region 2-5A very well, being a coordinator for the past eight years at Soddy Daisy. He was the DC of the Year twice. Very disciplined and great x and o man. He would bring alot of experience to the table and would not stay for a few years and leave. He would be in it for the long haul. He is very loyal and is one of the hardest working coaches in the business. Most of all, he is a great person with high morals. McMinn County would not go wrong with hiring him. He is the best man for the job! He deserves a shot. He has paid his dues as an assistant. Scotty was in the running for the job when Daughtery got it.

 

Don't know much about the others, except Bennett. Great person and very good coach. Just not sure if he has the experience or has been part of a program with alot of success as a coach. Played with him at CN, so he has been around a program with winning traditions as a player, but not sure about as a coach. The others I do not know.

Im going on a limb and saying it will either be Bennett or Cagle because they both played at McMinn. I think that alone would leave the feeling of stability in place with these guys. Both also have lots of ties to many people from the area.

Actually Bennett is from Nashville. He was an asst. at McMinn though. He has coached several playoff teams including McMinn when they went 9-3 (I think) under Hutchins a few years ago. I've heard they only have openings in English, Math, and Spanish at this time. They also have to hire a head girl's basketball coach. Are any of the applicants certified in one of these areas? If so, that might put them at the head of the pack.

I could be wrong but bennett is cert. in PE & Drivers ED. and the Cagle is History.

I have known and worked with Scott Smith for the last 5 years, a harder worker you will not find!! If the administration is 100% devoted to turning the program into a consistant winner, then they need not pass on him again. Coach Smith is as good a X's and O's coach as anyone out there. He has payed more than his dues and someone will get a great coach if McMinn passes on him. Coach Smith also has untouched morals and demands the same from his players. Soddy's loss would be a huge gain for McMinn County.

I can assure you that we will be selecting a coach first then a teacher. I realize this is not the politically correct thing to say but we need a coach that will fill the stands and as everyone knows @ McMinn football funds all sports except for basketball. They must find the very best coach and then we can find a place for him to fulfill his teaching duties.

I also have an opinion about the vacany of the girls basketball coach....in my opinion I say if the school hires a coach and he/she quites his/her coaching job within the first 5 years (not being fired) that they also must resign their teaching position. This should apply to all coahing positions because before you realize it you will have a faculty made up of coaches and not educators. But who knows @ McMInn they always seem to do the opposite of what you think they might do.

I say Bennett gets the job.....great person....good coach.....and he will be here for a long time.....

I agree with houndorr. Smith probably is the most experience coach listed. He has been aound some very good coaches in his coaching career, as well as playing days. Played for Oak Ridge back in the day, walked on at Alabama with Bear Bryant, Miss. St. head coach, Croom was his position coach at Alabama, was an Assistant for Mike McIntyer at UT-Martin (most recently was an assistant for Dallas Cowboys). Smith has the pedigree and should not be passed up. It might be good if McMinn brought in someone with no ties to the program. I do think Bennett would do a great job there, but he has already been there and left. Why would you hire someone who left to begin with. Scotty Smith is too good of a coach, and person, not to be highly considered for the job. Not sure why anyone would not want him to coach and mentor their kids.

Has Smith ever been a head coach? I was under the impression that he was a head coach several years ago and was not successful. Is this a fact? The local supporters do not know anything about Smith....so what is his history besides what has been posted above. Thanks for any information that we can get....
