500 and 550 in center fields?? that is CRAZY! only FEW major leaguers can hit the ball over 550! thats just insane, the longest field i know of in the majors is Houstons Minute Maid Park, and their center is 435! Do these people really expect high school ball players to hit the ball over 500??

I also heard from some of the USJ players that they played on a field with no outfield fence! so if you burned the outfielders pretty good, it was a garanteed homerun. They were sayin all you had to do was hit it over their heads and just run as hard as you can and you get a homerun. I think USJ had 5 homeruns that game by the way*

O yea, and back on the topic, i think Preston Overbey from USJ has hit 10 homeruns.. still.. FRESHMAN! This kid is good.

I played at a field in WestTN many years ago that did not have a fence and out past right centerfield there were two classroom buildings. One of our players hit one to the gap and it made it to the buildings and landed on a sidewalk between the buildings. At this point the ball just kept on rolling down the sidewalk. He got an inside the park homerun and after he touched homeplate the outfielder was still chasing the ball down. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

They had sidewalks way back then /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> I thought you played before concrete was invented.

QUOTE(fire30 @ Apr 2 2007 - 02:33 PM) 826428322[/snapback]I think Science Hill plays there home games on the biggest field in the state, granted its a minor league ballpark. The dimensions are 325' down the lines 350' or 360' to the power alleys and 430' to dead center. Does anyone know how many homers Derek Trent from DB has I think he has 7 or 8 this year and 30 for his high school career.

For your info Trent has 9 for this year (so for) and 32 for his career (so far). Trent broke the school record set back in 1990 by a great all time player named Jim Alder. Who went to play for the Detroit Tigers before a shoulder injury ended his carrer. Trent's record breaker went 500 feet before it landed! DB as a team has 5 power hitters that have homeruns under their belt this season, playing 23 games and hitting 23 HR's as a team. DB also has 4 more players could hit homeruns in some of the smaller ballparks (310 to 325). As for the biggest field Science Hill's Cardinal Park is maybe the largest but DB has a close second (350-425). Minor leagues use to play at J. Fred Stadium for many years prior to moving to Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport. Looking forwrd to watching those Indians do the CHOP!

DB lineup is like rockwoods. They have 6 or 7 guys who can hit it out of the park. I think rockwood has had 5 players with homeruns. ANd 3 with 7 or more. I would love 2 see Rockwood and DB play. WHo do yall think would win?

Jackson South Side used to have a huge TVA electric tower in centerfieldthat was in play. It was hard to focus with the buzzing of the lines over your head.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
