What ever happened to Rankin? He was tough...I played against him my sophomore year at Fulton ('89). He caught a swing pass in the flats, I came up from corner and tried to cut him and he hurdled me for about a 40 yard gain.

Some of these former linebackers from Marion are indeed Living Legends, but some of the others listed are simply begging for Legend Status. I agree with an earlier poster that Bob Bible has got to be on that list. Bob was as tough a linebacker that has ever played at Marion. Rodney Rankin is also another Living Legend, but Little Rankin that plays now has got a VERY LONG way to go if he ever wants to be close to his daddy. Old Johnny Morrison was a good one that came from Whitwell and turned out to be a good player. He was as mean as a rattlesnake. I remember when he dated Coach Layne from Sequatchie's daughter. Now that was a mean couple. Those two liked to fight more than Ultimate Fighting contenders. I would move T.J. Gentle up that list a little. The Kinsey kid turned out to be a good player also. As for John Patrick? NO way. He was not a Living Legend, he was only a sawed off trash talking marshmellow boy that many times created a bad image for the program. Jeff Gudger was another really good player that attained Legend status. He went on to play for ETSU and had a good career. As for his little brother, he never achieved Legend Status, but he would have probably made the top 25 list. Another player that played with Little Gudger that was a good player was Brandon Graham. It is tough to list a top 10 of all time, but it's fun to speculate. What do I know though, I am only a blue collar, hard working man that likes to give my opinion on these boards.

That was impressive, you must have some years on you to be able to know Bob Bible.

Who was the middle linebacker that played for Marion Co in 1988. He looked about 6'3 220lbs. I saw Alcoa and Marion Co play in 1988 which was a great great game. He played awesome that game and the only reason they lost Alcoa had Shannon Mitchell at middle linebacker. Is this linebacker in the first list because he should be. WHAT A GREAT GAME!

Marion and Alcoa have had quite some battles through the years haven't they? Alcoa dominated early and then there were a few close games and then marion dominated in the early nineties. I am not sure but was the guy you were talking about Jeff Gudger? I am not sure what year he played.
