I for one would like to see Maryville move up to 5A. Do you guys think they would run the table on these teams.. NOT..

Three things will happen when Maryville moves up to 5A in the 09 season.

#1. A lot of 4A coaches will be really happy.

#2. A lot of 5A coaches will be really sad.

#3. Maryville will be playing in the last game on the first Saturday of December in Murfreesboro instead of the second game.

Every reclassification year , the T$$AA ranks schools by enrollment numbers, that is divided by 5(football), 3(Basketball and others). The cut off is therefore fluid, based on student population. New schools in the school districts and zoning changes can influence school population.

A student population change of +20% or -20% can trigger a classification change, between classification years.

By my count and by using the latest TSSAA numbers, here's what it would be if they started new classes for the 2007-2008 school year. The private school numbers are their multiplier figures. Some of the numbers like Sequatchie, Rhea and Ooltewah are already at least 100 short. This isn't counting some new schools and teams about to start, schools voluntarily moving up and isn't counting the rule where a private school can move only one class per classification period even with a multiplier. I don't see why they can't still have two-year periods the way it used to be

Mount Juliet is indeed moving up as well as building a new highschool. Station Camp is moving up as well possibly to 5-A to compete with Hendersonville and Gallatin. Beech is on the bubble but could elect to go up to 5-A as well as Portland to make a Sumner/Wilson County 5-A region. At least that is what I am hearing.

Now, is Mt. Juliet going to get a new high school building, or is Wilson County getting a new high school?

Station Camp and Portland moving to 5A? You can't be serious.

Indian, I think the enrollments number you have on here are not current. These numbers are as of 2006.

Having a four-year system allows teams like Rhea County to be playing lower than where they should be. Even with year-old figures, they should be in 5A. This year they have about 1500 in the school. It also allows brand new schools to play down, a couple of years ago a new school with 1200 students was competing in Class AA and beating teams in most every sport, from baseball to girls basketball. In football they played 3A and won the region. That school hasn't done nearly as well since moving to AAA and 4A. Teams don't have four year schedules, they have two years schedules normally, home and away, no reason the enrollments and classification periods couldn't follow that.

4A coaches may be happy to see Maryville move up to 5A; however, not so happy to see Fulton & Catholic move in with them.

Fulton and Catholic, teams like that on the edge either way, you can't tell for sure yet where they'll be. All of you up there probably know close to their latest numbers, these are a year old at least I'm thinking. That would help stack that 4A region around Knoxville back up even if Maryville moves up. If the very latest enrollments were used the team I follow would be listed with 675 students and would be one of the smallest 3A schools in the state even though they're struggling in 2A. I have nothing to gain by wishing the system was revised. just saying if they're going to use enrollments for classification just do it as well as they can.

In Hickman County's case, this number is not close. HCHS and East Hickman both have around 600 or so students. These must be old numbers.

As far as the Knoxville-area schools go, Maryville will likely move out of region 3-4A into 5A, and Knox West may be large enough by 2009 to move up to 5A as well. The new Hardin Valley HS should be 5A, but it won't take enough students from Farragut, Bearden, and Karns (many Powell students will be rezoned to Karns) to bump them all down to 4A. Four schools will likely be moving up from 3A - Seymour, Knox Catholic, Fulton, and Anderson County. Seymour would likely play in region 2-4A, but the other three schools would have to play in region 3-4A. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, especially with the new high school opening soon. The new region 3-4A would have some great teams - Catholic, Fulton, Central, Halls, and Powell, plus Anderson County.

    • It was not ACHS at all, they have zero reason to worry about Clinton.  It had to do with a kid (non football player)  that had a charge and appeared in front of the juvenile judge.  The judge saw that the kid was way behind credit wise for his grade and told him to reappear in a month with a plan to graduate.  When the kid reappeared he had more that twice the credits than one month before.  The judge called BS and contacted the school.  That is what started the investigation.  This involves multiple students, but to this point no athletes are involved.
    • I believe the Covington Chargers travel to Trenton Peabody for a scrimmage today? Anyone going to this? Curious how the Chargers will do.
    • Good ole Bradley Zulliger. He was a really good QB @ OR. Fun to watch.  Wore #15 and was like a mini Tebow, with the exception of being right handed. He could take a pounding and keep on ticking. Played with a collapsed lung against Powell that year. Tough as nails.
    • They should be pretty good in year two for Rang.  Replacing most of the offensive production losing Dozier, Hayward and Rembert , but they're are skill kids in place ready for their shot.  I know I say this every year, but the o line should show improvement after two years in Rang and Kevin Day's weight program.  I still would favor West over Plow and OR come November.  The Rebs will have to grow up a bunch between now and then, and will probably take some lumps along the way with that schedule.  But I predict come playoff time they will be ready.   One of their coaches half joked to me that they could go 5-5 regular season and win the state championship.  Ha ha.
