Should public schools that charce tuition be allowed to play in the public division,or should they be required to play with private schools that also charge tuition. Should the multiplier be applied to public schools that charge tuition like private schools who want to play in the public division? Should their be a semi-private league for these schools?

I have long said that schools who charge tuition...public schools who are open zoned or where a fee can be paid to attend are the same...if anything the open zones have an advantage in that they seldom charge as much as a private would if they charge at all...they should be treated one and the same...I like playing in Division I but think if we get a 1.8 multiplier then the opne zones should as well...if we are pushed from Division ! then we should be put in a new division with the open zone schools but not in Division II with the aid or scholarship giving schools...we are as different from them as small rural publics claim they are from us privates...I am not going to argue that we have advantages I think privates do have some...we are not restricted by a zone...but then neither are open zone schools...I think their are disadvantages to being private as well, but I am not even going to bring those up...I will admit to our advantages, but think they are no different and in some cases not even as great as open zoned schools...just treat us the same...and if you are really interested in a level playing field then don't put us in Division II with schools who are vastly different than us...

Clawball needs to quit his crying about Maryville. He started 3-4 threads crying about Maryville.

I am not crying about Maryville. If I am crying about any thing it is about a level playing field. I do not think that to many people take this topic very serousily, especially TSSAA. I know that some of my post have been sarcastic but I thought that was the best way to get replies because other posters were sarcastic or not very serious. My question still is about an equal opportunity for all teams to compete against other teams that go by the same rules pretaining to school zones, transfer policy, tuition charged or not charged, etc. I thought that I was very specific about this in my last post. I wish that some other posters would reply in a serious manner. Maybe someone that knows of a public school that allows transfers from out of theirschool zone to pay tuition and be eligible to participate in sports could give their opinion. I would also like for a poster from one of these public schools that charges tuition to honestly tell how many players have played starting roles on their teams. I question if this in formation would be reported, but prove me wrong. Maybe the Head Cqach or Athletic Director of these teams would volunteer this information. Why should this information be so secret, what is there to hide? If this information is reported honestly for the past 10 years then maybe this issue could be put to rest or maybe the rules could be changed. I hope that I have asked ligitimate questions and have presented some good ideas. I welcome similar responses.

does Maryvill ehave an open school zone?...being from West tenn I know little about them

Yes JaxMan Maryville has an open school zone. Students that live outside of the Maryville City zone can attend Maryville High school if they transfer and pay tuition. Do you know of any schools that are public and charge tuition to transfer students in your area of the state. They play in public DI and have won 52 games in a row and the the last 4 or 5 state championships in class 4A. Most of their competition are public schools that are closed school systems where you have to move in to the zone to be eligible to play sports.

Maryville has a great program. That said, you will NEVER get much help from the private bashers or support from them when talking about any advantages that any public might have. Why?

1) There is no such thing as a level playing field, and they know it. That is just a phrase they use when they mean 'we hate it when the privates beat us but we don't want to sound whiney...so we are gonna punish them because a few are good'.

2) Since the true reason for the multiplier is to punish the few privates who got good, they certainly won't acknowledge that there are some publics who are better than any private has ever been and that therefore must have advantages equal to or greater than the privates. If they did, their whole rationale for DII and the multiplier would go down the toilet.

I have put forth the idea of a merit system multiple times...because it is by definition fair and takes into account ALL advantages. It is fun to do because it is easy to see who is really looking for a solution to engender competition and who is really out to punish the privates. The silence from some posters who claim to be unbiased when a merit system is brought up is deafening...just as it will be for this thread.

Baldcoach, should public schools that allow transfer students to pay tuition and be eligible to play sports play private since they are operating as a private school for students that live outside of their zone. It would be interesting to see if the public schools that do this would object, and to see how many of their players are tuition paying transfer students that start on some of these championship teams!

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.

    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
