redandblack,

you may want to be careful about the profanity issue. central coaches have a bad reputation for that, and I can even recall being at a local church a couple of years back when the preacher actually used that in his sermon. (true story)

That is indeed one of the concerns that I have with the Coaching staff at Central. I personally don't condone bad language but unfortunately when Coaches are winning people tend to ignore that behavior. That was the point I was trying to make about opening yourself up for criticism. If a Coach is 10-0 he can cuss like a sailor and not much is said. If he is 4-6 profanity gives parents and community an opening to complain and make an end run around the real issue. Not winning, my kid isn't starring, etc...

I support the team at Central and for the most part the coaching staff. By no means do I support the use of profanity by any of the Coaching staff, I am aware of it, and have voiced my concerns.

coach phillips resigned today ,going back to college to get his degree. going to tusculum. will be student asst. coach

This sounds like a good move for Phillips he is young and needs to finish his education. And I am sure the time he spends with the Tusculum staff will help him in his endeavor to coach football. Who knows, in a few years he could be a premier coach in the east tn. area.

Now enough of this nicey nicey sappy stuff.

Riddle me this: Who will take his place?

By the way just in case you are wondering the answer to my earlier riddle is NOT Coach Phillips.

Good to see that things are moving in a positive direction for the CHS Football team, but unless Shattuck goes, they will just replace Phillips with another of his caliber.....

Riddler, I bet I can guess the answer to your riddle........

Your at a different school why do you care what happens at Clinton. Clinton got better this year and you are still unhappy. if andy hires the middle school coach as off. coach it will be a long year in 2008. Don't be surprised if Stone leaves. wonder if Little would come back if Stone left.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
