After placing two in the state finals, and having three overall medalists, could this be the year that this region has an even better showing at state, and hopefully some state champions. Teams are in order of region finish.

Glencliff- defending region champ returns basically everyone. They are led by state 171 runner-up Monterrace Reams and Nick Steiner and 7 other state qualifiers. Should be in for a dog fight for region supremacy with:

Antioch- region tournament runner up the past two seasons, the Bears hope to bring home gold this season. Led by region champs Chris Soboun, Eric Rucker, and Scott Osatillie, the Bears nearly had four placers at the state tournament in Soboun, Nuffio, and Osatillie. (Hwt Gibbs placed 4th)

East Lit.-Third place finisher in small school state duals, this team is serious with basically their whole team back. Led by Shaun Garrett (a serious contender in whatever weight class) this team could make a push for the small school state championship.

Hunters Lane-big losses in state finalist Kerry Dowell and Tony Corley, but this team still returns 6 state qualifiers and probably the best HWT in the region in Quinton Patton. Antonio Lillard will be counted on for leadership and quality wins.

McGavock-returns probably the most underrated wrestler in the state in Thomas Holman, his shot is relentless, and he has made the qtrfinals of the state the past two years. Beyar Yahya will have to be a leader this year, another relentless wrestler who should have a great showing in Chattanooga.

Martin Luther King-lost two very good wrestlers in Taylor Fortune and Jesse Watkins, but return state qualifier Kyle Chandler, and everyone else.

TSB/DCA-does not return much

Stratford-Did not have a team until late; only 2 wrestlers, maybe there will be more this season

Hume-Fogg-should be an up and comer, not enough bodies to contend

Maplewood-not many wrestlers; best wrestler may opt for football

Burnley is an excellent wrestler, just can't seem to finish a season. Also, I thought the Gentuso's were twins, because they sure look alike. Pendergrass hasn't shown me much in three years.

yeah hume fogg does have a new coach...we have close to a full team...currently we ar missing on some mid/heavyweights but we have all the lighter weights filled...look for us to be more competitive then in the past but we're still a very young team

a good kid and is a senior this year???

 

Pendergrass should do well this year. I did not say that

he would win state. He had a good season last year, and should do well

this year if he wrestles. I know that he won his share for the team last year.

 

Just because you dont place @ state does not mean that you were not good

in your region. I know of MANY regionally champs that went one and out @ state

last year. One comes to mind that was ranked in both polls all year @ 171. If you

contribute to your team, and do all that you can, then.............you have earned

a mention in my book!

Last year was very good year but it may not translate into success this season. The region has 30 returning qualifiers but only 10 have notched a tournament win and 4 of the 10 only recorded 1 win. The returning Region 7 Qualifiers are a combined 33-78 in the State Tournament and Monterrace Reams has 7 of those wins. Here are a few wrestlers with a shot to place.

 

--- If Soboun and Nuffio (Ant) are still at 103 and 112, they'll have an opportunity. Their chances decrease significantly if they move up in weight class. The same goes for Steiner (Glen) at 112.

 

--- Besides Reams, it looks as if Holman (McG) has the best chance to place (at 152 or even 160). Both weight classes will see lots of new faces on the podium this year.

 

--- If Reams is at 171 again this year, the going will be tough. He'll likely see Jake Young again in the finals if he's able to get by Danny Tolbert in the semi's.

 

 

Beyond this group, Osataille (MLK) and Chandler (Ant) have the best chance to end the season on the podium.

Who knows with Scott, he starts out around 152, and by the end of the season is weighing around 130. I predict with him around 140-145, and yes he cuts weight the right way.
