I'm sure they do the best they can, as long as you give it your all, thats all anyone can expect.

Jordan Hughes and brandon Winchester will more than likely receive an offer from morehead state as soon as they receive their NCAA clearing house waiver. and before anyone opens their mouth with doubt I will tell you first hand thats all MHSU is waiting on I took them both this past weekend to visit the campus and meet with the coaches. They have seen both play a couple of games, and I have spoke with the coach several times by phone. I would say there are a few players going to get a shot, a couple from hampton, Estep for sure, wannamaker, and possiably one from jellico

You don't have to be a superstar in highschool to MAKE THE TEAM at a small naia or D-3 school. You may not play until youre a senior if you play then but if you work hard are a descent athlete and a good student those schools will take you. Carson Newman , Tusculum type schools you have to be a solid ball player to make their teams but again you don't have to be an all american or even all state to go there. Any thing bigger than than that takes a gift of size and speed with a good work ethic grades and playing for a noticeable team in Highschool. We have had several kids from Cosby play college ball and we have never been a big time football school. We currently have 2 at emory and one transferring to Tusculum from TN Tech to possibly play ball just off of last years team.

Thank You for your reply about these other kids playing at the next level. People act like the kids from the other small schools don't count, but there are some really good athletes on these teams as well. So some of them didn't make the playoffs and some got 4th place big deal, they all played hard and there is some that have been contacted by more than one naia school. The shame is that you have adults on here downing these kids that their not as good as this one or that one. To me they all have to be pretty good athletes and dedicated kids or they wouldn't be out there everyday putting themselves through all that they do. So I'm proud of every kid that goes out there everyday, every Friday night and does the best that they can do to the best of their ability. And to the Seniors on all teams, good luck with your future whether it involves football or not.

I'm not big on talking about who should get what award but i have to bring up Robbie turbyfill's name for coach of the year. I'm not saying that JC doesnt deserve it but Robbie has done alot to get the program back on track he has held fundraiser after fundraiser so that the future landers can play on a nice field., taught the kids theres more to life than football , responsibiliy, team work, and family values. He has also took a team with 5 seniors that was 2-8 and missed the playoff's for the first time since god knows when, to playing a homefield playoff game and finishing 2 in the region with only 1 loss in the state of Tn. O and did i say that he is a first year coach who put in a new offense and defense. Pretty impressive don't you think! I am not taking nothing away from JC because he his a hall of famer in my book. But realisticly how many coaches can say they accomplished that their first year as a head coach? Thats why Robbie should be Coach of the year.

Hard to argue with that. I do hold the upmost respect for JC and all the other coaching staff at Hampton. Great Job!

i agree with you about hughes. he is very good. but i do give the edge to lunsford. he has 27 TD's, 17 passing, 10 rushing. he has a few INT's (i am not sure how many, i think 4). but i definately believe it is between lunsford and hughes. they are the best 2 players in conference, on offense anyways...

I couldnt agree more . Both of these kids are class acts. They lead by example on how a student athelete should act.

Too bad both of the teams fans can't learn something from them on how to act befor they graduate.

Shoot ,they are almost like brothers, they have spent most of their lives with each other, fine kids and ballplayers as well. I've been around both these kids since they were babies. They grow up fast. I hate to see them graduate.

like you said, this is Robbie's first year. He will have many more chances. JC took a team through an undefeated season for only the third time in school history. I think Robbie and the Highlanders will be the team to beat once again after next year. As Robbie is coming in and just starting a career, JC's is winding down. And JC's team hammered Robbie's team...

I'm betting on Hampton again next year. I'm not sure JC does all that much coaching ,but he should be up for Man of the year. He tries to teach these kids life lessons, if they pay attention ,they will be better men ,for it. I'm really impressed at the little things he tries to instill in these kids. He 's also a very smart football coach. I'd trust him with my children is a skinny minute.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
