IMAC...?...

Not sure you are too credible since you don't even know the Coach's name at Mo East. First of all you need to check his resume. If you ask any knowledgeable coach in East Tennessee about your coach, you will find out he is highly thought of. As far as this year, anytime there is a coaching change you have some player attrition especially if they don't wish to work hard.

You have a proven coach who is willing to build a program if people like you would leave him alone. If you question his coaching ability, I suggest you attend a practice and watch him work. East will be in good hands but it will take time. Get rid of the "athletes" that aren't willing to work and work with the young kids that want to play. It will pay off in the long run I bet.

I don't have to watch him in practice to see what kind of a coach he is. To lose a game by almost sixty points and give a quote to the Johnson City press that his team has "to work on how to work harder. They don’t know the effort it takes to win games” doesn't sound like someone who is trying to build a team. It sounds like someone who is playing the blame game. Furthermore, he is not my coach. I don't have any children or grandchildren who play on either the girl's or the boy's team. I just enjoy watching basketball. Have you watched him in practice? If so, you must have a great deal of inside information about the program that the rest of us don't. I look forward to seeing your posts in the future. Also, I don't think not wanting to work hard is always a reason why some players don't return when a new coach takes over and on this issue, I think you and a lot of other people give coaches too much credit. I certainly hope that East improves. Only time will tell.

If you was at this game, you seen the three worst referees in the world. I'm not making excuses for the loss, because they were equally bad for both teams. On FIVE different occasions they called a foul and when they went to the scorer's table put the foul on the wrong player. One time in particular they called a foul on a kid that was on the BENCH. No excuse for that. REFS, pay attention to the ball game and who commits the foul. I also saw one ref tell both sets of cheerleaders not to flip past half court. Get real buddy, this is why the cheerleaders are there. It's a competition to see which one can flip the farthest. Stick to your day job, because you will never make a living as a referee. Cocke Cty. is a good team, I'm not taking anything away from them. They hustle and battle 'til the end. I just wanted to vent my frustration about the refs. They were really horrible.

im from cosby which is up the road a ways so im not biased by no means. ive just got some friends that play for cocke county, and i was at the game. the refs didnt call the fouls on the wrong players that was the guy doin the PA gettin the teams mixed up. and the refs were telling the cheerleaders not to start fliping after the horn blows. i agree the refs werent great, but ive seen way worse. and i didnt get to make it, but i heard they looked tough again tonite with a 20 pt win over rutledge.

Cocke County has a fine team this year. McBee picked up his 3rd foul with 3 minutes left in the 1st quarter. Rutledge was down 13-11 at the time after jumping out to early 7-0 lead. I believe that it would have been a very competitive game had he been able to play the entire game. Not saying that Cocke County would not have won, they probably would have. They are strong inside and have good guards, nice win for them.

Caught both the girls and boys game last night and I believe the refereeing was worse in the girls game. I know this post is about the boys teams but I'm talking about the referees in general between both the games. In the girls game #32 and 23 both had four fouls with #32 having four before halftime (two of which were true fouls and the other two were stupid fouls on the refs behalf). As for the boys game McBee getting three fouls halfway into the first quarter was plain ridiculous. Yeah maybe they were true fouls but I know he ain't the only one out there playing ball Cocke Co.'s players were fouling worse than McBee. I thought it was very poor officiating in both games and I don't think the dark haired ref knows anything about refereeing a ball game. Someone who doesn't know anything about basketball could've refereed the game better than him. Also I was sitting next to some Cocke Co. fans and they were lobbying with the referees to give the good players (that could make a difference in the game) from both the boys and girls teams early fouls so they would have to set on the bench and that they're presence wouldn't be on the floor. I think that is very classless from the fans having to lobby with the referees to get the good players out of the game with numerous fouls in the first half. Us Rutledge fans just nag the referees during the games but I have never known of any Rutledge fans telling the referees they need to give so and so fouls so they won't be on the court to maybe make a difference in the game. Some of the referees around these conferences need to give up their whistles because they sure don't know how to ref a ball game. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

A foul is a foul, is a foul. I'm sure there was no "conspiracy", as you imply, to charge fouls to certain players over others. If you cannot comment intelligently without criticizing referees, don't comment. Wasn't there, just an observation. A poster who posted prior to you commented that even with McBee, the outcome probably does not change. Cocke County is a talented group this year and should make some noise in the IMAC. So instead of attacking the referees, adjust to the style of officiating going on in the game. Good players and teams do that everyday.

I'm not taking anything away from the kids out there playing from either team they all played their hearts out, but sometimes refereeing can have an effect on the outcome of the game. Cocke Co. is a good team and no doubt they will make some noise in the IMAC. As far as the "conspiracy", I've watched too many games which these refs have refereed in which Rutledge has played and the same refs that made the bad calls on these kids last night are the same referees that make the bad calls on them in other games, that may just be coincidence or it may be something else, I'm not sure. I know I'm just talking about the bad calls against the Pioneers but they were some pretty horrible calls made against Cocke Co. as well. Like in the girls game #35 from Cocke Co. had four or five fouls (only two that were true fouls, the other ones was crazy fouls that even she couldn't believe she got called for). Like an early poster said one of the fouls that was called was on someone that was sitting on the bench and one of the fouls in the girls game was given to a girl who was around midcourt on a foul that occured under the basket, and you can't say something is wrong about these referees. I thought there was one good referee and two that needed to give up their whistles. As for the fans trying to persuade the referees I only heard one of the three referees tell them that they can't tell him how to ref the ball game and the other two just smiled and grinned real big. I'm sure you've been at a game in which the refereeing was horrible and your trying to say you've never said anything bad about a referee or they way the game was refereed. Not all referees are bad there is a few good ones out there but they never seem to get to referee the games together, they stick one good referee with two awful referees and the good referee is never the head ref who could overturn a bad call if need be. I wish Cocke Co. the best of luck in their future games and I hope they do make noise in the IMAC both boys and girls. I also hope neither teams have referees like that again because refereeing can have a big influence on the outcome of a game no matter how good the teams are. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Thats exactly what I thought. Much shorter trip back to Greeneville. I hope that doesn't meen were the sacrificial lamb and we were selected for the round ball Germans to get in. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Hope Dale Burns (tournament Director) blows this one.

It's all just the luck (or lack there of) of the draw for the local teams. With the teams that they bring in these days, we are almost all expected to be sacrificial lambs eventually. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> And that's ok with me. I love to see the talent come in and our boys won't see the level of competition they will see in this tournament until (or if) they reach the State Tournament.

    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
