I hate 5A refs with an attitude

At the William Blount / Campbell Co. game last night, the head ref was one of those showboat refs who had to be flamboyant in every call. He was deliberate and took away from the game. It was like he was trying to be the center of attention. One of the other refs should've thrown a flag on him for excess celebration or unsportsmanlike conduct or something. It was obnoxious to say the least.

There are a few crews in 5A Region 1 and 2 who seem to have an attitude.

Does anyone else think the refs need to make their calls in a more subdued fashion without using such melodrama? If players can't get in other people's faces, why can the refs tick off half the fans at a ballgame?

I wasn't at the Farragut/Jeff. Co. game, but from what I heard there was something like 20+ penalties for 200+yards.. both teams had atleast 10 penalties for 100 yards... Sounds like the Farragut/WB game from last year in the reg. season.

Farragut 12 for 123 yards / Jeff Co. 9 for 102 yards. By far the most over- officiated game I have seen in my life. It is sad when a crew feels like they have to control the game like that. 21 penalties for 225 yards, come on that is ridiculous. If anyone else gets that Chattanooga crew, look out. I don't think they even put their flags in their pockets, just kept them in their hands for easy access.

His theatrics almost made me vomit, without doubt he was on the dance team in high school. What about poor Porky with the the black hat, the dance team guy had to stop the game after every play to give him time to get up to the spot of the ball. Also I hear from an close inside source that one of the crew was a friend of DB's coach and he made that fact public and warned the WB staff of his intent before the game. I'd say a good coaching job by Clark in both games. That's bad stuff but here's the WOSRT, I spoke to one of the WB Cheerleaders last night and she said that she thinks one of the was hitting on her before the game. I rarely post here and in case anybody is wondering, I'm not a student, I'm a parent and I'm angry about the total mentality of the people whom the TSSAA entrust to fairly monitor the play of our young men! That group of officials does not need to be on any field.

I am sure there are many refs who are friendly with not only Coach Clark, but other coaches as well. Are you suggesting that somehow DB coaches tried to manage the WB/Campbell County game? If that were the case I think the outcome would have been a little different, don't you?

As I said I rarely post but I will respond, no nothing could have helped CC. Check the game stats, while the young men from CC were scrappy they could only generate 4 first downs and 61 yards total offense. WB was penalized 12 times for 130 yards, more than double the CC offensive product.

Well...

I have already stated my opinion on the officiating of the game I attended Friday night... If anyone cares to read it you can find on or near the last page of the CC at WB thread...

It is my hope or wish that with the number of game this week cut in half, maybe the TSSAA will choose from the best of the best for the remaining playoff games.... If the TSSAA has a grading system in place then this would be possible...

If any of the officials are reading this thread please remember that the fans of both teams paid to see their players play, not to see grown men make a spectacle of themselves.... I as a fan appreciate your hard work.. it's a hard, thankless job but some of your group are giving all of you a bad name.....

IT's too bad so many officials can't let the game be decided by the players on the field. I realize rules are rules, but I cannot support theatrics by a officiating crew. I heard that during the Farragut game after the Farragut PA announcer made a comment about a play without a flag, the Head Referee came to the Farragut sideline and threatened Coach Courtney with having the PA announcer escorted out of the stadium by police if he made another comment like that again. I don't know if it was true or not, but I wouldn't doubt it, since he seemed to be a control freak. I agree that the PA guy is supposed to be nonbias, but he just said what everyone else was thinking, and it was funny.

"A close inside source"? Warned the WB staff of his intent before the game? What intent was that? Give me a break. Why would Graham worry about that game when he had Oak Ridge on the schedule and a win would pit him against Farragut?

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
