Dobyns-Bennett over Beardan

The sad thing for Bearden was that they are a good outside shooting team but their last two games blevins did not allow them to shoot threes. As a matter of fact, Parker was sent to the dressing room for most of the first half for taking a three point shot. The beauty of Bearden's offense the entire year was the ability of the Big men, except Simpson, to step out and shoot the three. this forced the defense to come out and freed up Simpson from three defenders cheating down on him. Also Bearden has two senior subs who shoot lights out from three. The point guard's only role has been to bring the ball up the floor and initiate the offense. Jenkins is the other guard and he only tried to take the ball inside. Blevins subbed in two freshmen who had had no real playing time to rest the point guard resulting in immediate turnovers. He had a junior and senior point guard on the bench who had valuable big game experience. Blevins attempts to motivate by intimidation and belittling his players. During last night's game, some of the Bearden players were afraid to do anything. I could go on and on but I think you get the picture. As someone said earlier in the season, " If Bearden doesn't make it to the state this year there can only be one reason"

Beardens coach Blevins was quoted in the paper Tuesday that, they had beaten Maryville 's team and this years Maryville's team was twice as good as last years state champion team.I guess that really was an upset for DB.Good luck to the Tribe, great game last nite.Everybody played as a team.

You go purpletiger69 you told them like it was. Sad to say, people don't know the inside scoop. You talk about having no class; they are starting to talk about the Bearden players in the classroom. As I said they don't have the inside scoop. The Jenkins boy, from what I hear, has a great GPA.

Just telling it like it is!!!!!

I like that....from what you hear. That's really the inside scoop. It's not all about GPA either, there are test scores that have to be met to play at the D1 level. I think I know the situation pretty well having coached several of these guys and knowing and talking with some of the coaches at the school pretty well. JUST TELLING IT LIKE IT IS TOO!

So you know exactally how smart these guys are....RIGH!!! I wonder sometimes where people can get off judging other people when they can't realize that the problem is staring themselves right in the mirror. These kids are in High school and are 17 years old. heck, when I was there age, my grades were awful....it's call Maturity!!! You grow up quickly when you get to college and I know these young men have the potential to do great things in life. Don't be jealous that your Golly Green Men were sitting at home, while the dogs continued their season......I'M JUST SAYIN!!!!

THis is to IrishBBall

If you REALLY know the situation you would have more of an inside scoop and know that these guys are good kids (16yr olds). Never trouble in school etc. If you have kids, be careful what you say about others, it just may happen to people that you pray for. Every coach at Bearden will tell you that these are good kids that are growing up. It is ok to voice thoughts about games or playing styles, but when a person attacks others personally, oh be careful. "You reap what you sow" And those are not my words. If you REALLY coached them, thank God you don't anymore. You seem to be down on these boys.

Blevins' statement was about crazy. There is no way this year's Maryville's team was twice as good. They lost Basile and Maples and Pickle, and all they got in return was more play out of Reynolds. They had no bench. They played 6 players against OR and that 6th one played about 4 minutes. At best, this year's Maryville's team was equal to last year's. Good luck to DB. I just cannot figure out how Bearden lost their last 2. That is remarkable after watching them play several times this year.

Only having this one game to go by it was obvious DB was the better TEAM on this night. After reading all the hype and "BOOK IT" on here and Knox News already having them meeting Oak Ridge in the state title game, I was expecting a much better team. Simpson was very S L O W, played very little defense, and consistently got out hustled and beat on the dribble penetration. The team as a whole was very poor shooting and didn't handle the ball very well. Like I said this was one game of 30+ but I feel like DB had the better/deeper team.

Interesting that there last 2 losses were against teams with speed that pressured the ball and had great guard play

That is indeed a strange statement by Blevins. This year's Maryville starting five was equal or slightly better than last year's starting five but as you correctly pointed out, they didn't have the necessary depth to compete at a state championship level. Also, they had no wing "slashers", like they had with Maples and Basile last year. The losses of Butros Mohammed and Kyle Pickle from the program were really felt this year when we played athletic teams like Bearden and Oak Ridge. I hate it for Kyle and Butros that people never got to see how good they were but team rules come first.

Also, as you said, congrats to D-B. Awesome win for the Tribe.

Dobyns-Bennett is very proud to have earned the opportunity, along with our friends from Oak Ridge, to represent East Tennessee in the state tournament.

Congratulations, good luck, and much continued success to the Indians and the Wildcats.

Didn't think I was being overly harsh or critical. Didn't say or imply that they were bad or trouble kids. I know that they are not. Just saying they needed to grow up. They need to make sure they are taking care of business properly both on the court and in the classroom. If an average fan watched them play in several of the games I've seen, they might question (as I've seen others do in posts regarding previous games) the whining , gesturing and trash talking that they are involved in.
