Cane Ridge Basketball

Maybe it's just me, but I have a problem with someone lobbying for a job in the newspaper. Maybe Fuller got a raw deal the first time around but that doesn't mean he should automatically get the job back. Is it possible that this article came out to ward off some of the other possible candidates? Who wrote that article?

I am with you on that one. Who lobbies for a job in the paper, or who puts a potential candidate in the paper. Of all the hires in the past few years in Metro, what candidates are put in the paper just by applying for the job. With the hirings at Cane Ridge, nobody knew the candidates until they were hired. For some of the positions, I didn't even know there were advertised(baseball, wrestling). I take it a former player would try to get his former coach some headline. I guess that is the Tennessean's way of covering high school athletics. No stories on baseball, softball, track, or soccer, just an article on an old coach who wants his old job back.

Metro is just like the NBA when it comes to coaching. No offense to the new Coach at Cane Ridge but what did he do at Overton? It does not matter what your record is in metro you can always find a job. I know a few really good coaches that applied for the Cane Ridge job and dd not get a sniff. I think that metro basketball is a joke. And it is no wonder why more and more coaches are looking else where to coach.

Its not the basketball that is a joke, it is the hirers and firers that are a joke. If you know someone around here you can pretty much choose the job you want.

Yep,

You can't exactly call it the Good Ole Boy Network anymore, but the same basic principles still apply. There is a lot of dead weight coaching in Metro today due to that fact. All the while, a lot of the coaching talent runs off to the Private Schools and the outlying counties.

And we wonder why Metro hasn't won a state hoops title in 28 years!!

Nununu, Is Nollner still running that zone down 15 points with the superior athletic talent??

Overton will be decent next year and very good in two yrs. They have a very talented backcourt that will be there for the next three yrs. I'm sure Coach Reed was torn. HE finally gets a team with talent and this job comes available. He will get more consistant talent at Cane Ridge, which is why he probably left. Mark my words when this group becomes seniors they will be the team to beat in Metro. They have a dynamic point guard who excels at baseball as well and a D1 shooting guard who will both be sophomores next yr. They will take their lumps next yr, but their jr and sr yrs watchout. Then I expect Overton go back to the usual........

the girls hire for cane ridge was just as bad. the coach from hunters lane. I guess when a job comes open in metro outsiders need not apply huh

I said that in an earlier post. Coach Reed and Tribue did not have the best records. But one thing that few people understand is that Reed's hiring was a package deal. You get a decent coach in exchange for an excellent English teacher that will boost Gateway scores. Coach Tribue's hiring shows us its all about who you know, or are married to.

Rommie is a good guy, a good coach, and will do well at CR. As far as Tribue goes I dont know her but her record at one of Metro's most athletic schools doesnt just scream at you.

I will say this though, some of the comments on here are interesting. I am not saying that I disagree but some of the comments on here are exactly why someone like myself will have a hard time trying to move up to high school anytime soon.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
